One thing I've internalised in my career: there's basically no correlation between "code that is well-written" and "code that makes money"

I once inherited a python system that handled about $100m in ARR. It was a single Django class that was 25k lines long and had zero tests or docs that always called out to MySQL and postgres via fork+exec rather than actually using those client libraries

Oh no, every API key system should have endpoint "invalidate_api_key" If key is leaked, at leat whitehat hackers (or the party who stored them) could invalidate found keys.

One of the secret benefits of blame-free engineering culture is you don't have to deal with stuff like this

Companies are giving AI more autonomy at work. But managers say it's unclear who should be held responsible when things go wrong, a Wharton study finds.

this is a good take

quote / screenshot dunking is the lowest form of post. arguably even lower than the actual dumb take being written your friends and followers like and trust you, and you make them read crap in order to, what, feel smug? that you're better than that crap? don't do it. wash your hands. spread light

I sometimes think about how we all know what a "selfie" is, even though it wasn't like in the dictionary or anything, and only showed up in the 2000s. It's a meaning that found its word

you would not believe what a bunch of independently acting rogue humans did today when other humans weren't looking in contravention of some rules and behavioral guidelines and requirements set by other humans

In the future, the human's comparative advantage vs machines will our ability to self-heal small wounds, and our resistance to ionising radiation

Misinformation is rampant now because we depleted our reserves of facts about 10 years ago.

Multiple things can be true. Three things, or four things. Not five things, though.

When I worked on an online edtech product, one of the top 5 most used devices on the website was the Xbox

unironically, web designers need to test their work on a shitty chromebook and not on their hidpi macbooks with perfect color reproduction

All math problems can be solved with linear algebra

Pekka Lund@pekka.bsky.social

"this model has now resolved more than 100 long-standing open problems across most areas of mathematics" Now we just need to wait for decisions how those results can be announced without making mathematicians too angry.

I read this so now you guys also have to

Fuck me, i *was* kidding, but i'm afraid this is going to stick in my head now If i ever write "a LLM" because i couldn't figure out how to avoid having the indefinite article directly preceding 'LLM', know that in my mind's ear it was "a lollum" rhyming with Gollum
