If an electrician wired up someones home then the customer says "why don't I give you less money and tell my friends about you?" Said electrician would, rightfully, rip the wires out and flog them up and down the street. Artists are expected to tolerate such indignities.

As an indie, DON'T DO THIS. I know most of us have no money; too bad! Don't whine, lowball, or "bargain." Just fucking don't. No one owes you cheap labor. No one owes you *anything.* The entitlement in some pockets of this industry is embarrassing.

WTF kind of nonsense behavior is this. Artists are our colleagues- their business, the way they work, and the problems they face are our problems too. Treat your peers well. It's fine to have a budget. It's not fine to prey on students or people new to the industry.

Y'all, the fact that writers tend to be treated like shit and their work devalued is not an excuse to do the same to others. Visual artists have more in common with us than in difference. Don't be a douche. Treat them with respect.
