So I actually read the article because I figured this screenshot must be out of context, but it was not. There were other quotes in that article just as unintentionally embarrassing. Perhaps nothings sums it up better than this:

cool, cool

5) Pocari Sweat Unfortunately named, think Gatorade but works like damn magic at curing hangovers, stomachaches, any other dehydration based problem. Gatorade should be Temu-Pocari.

6) Drink vending machines everywhere. Like on every block. With sorts of pop, juice, and coffee. Including hot coffee in a can. Brilliant.

Checking in from Japan & I see the Alberta separatist vote got crushed. One thing I believe is that 30% would vote to get punched in the face in a yes/no vote. So if you clear 70%, that is an absolute ass-kicking. Especially since the percent turnout for Leave was probably higher than Remain.

3) Self-heating bento boxes. What kind of Star Trek space age magic is this? Heating your lunch with a pull of a string while on the road? We’re going all in on ChatGPT and all I want in life is something that heats my lunch without needing a microwave.

4) Luggage transport. You mean you’ll just ship my big luggage to the next destination and I can just travel with an overnight bag. When I get to my hotel my huge suitcases are just waiting for me? Madness.

Completely throwing me off being up at 6:30 in the morning but getting sports updates from afternoon-evening from my home time zone. It’s like my phone is in a different time zone than I am.

Were I a relieving pitcher who gave up several runs in a playoff game to lose the game for my time, you would simply never see me again. I would disappear, my existence erased from history.

nasa employee: oh hey u guys are back early from the mariana trench astronaut: ocean's haunted nasa employee: what? astronaut: *loading a pistol and getting on the rocket-ship to space* ocean's haunted

A student told me he saw on TikTok that NASA was originally created to study the oceans but then switched to space. I was like Huh? Why would someone lie about that? so I checked and of course, it's your classic "They know what's down there and won't tell us." I never guess

The thing I really like about the MLB challenge system is that it makes challenges a measurable skill. You only have two and your batter and catcher’s discipline and choices in using them can impact the game. You have individual and team strategies in using them.

Mike Petriello@mikepetriello.bsky.social

"What if a playoff game ends on an ABS challenge?!?" well, the world won't end and the call would be a correct one

I also like how it’s not the coach or manager that makes the challenge generally. Every player has opportunities to challenge. This makes team discipline important. One batter blows both challenges in one at bat… that could cost the game later.

If you’re a catcher that’s good at challenges? That’s an important skill set to add to the mix. Can turn an entire at bat, inning, or game.

Question for the Hive Mind: We’re going on vacation to Japan soon. (Super excited, should be great fun.) Any recommendations for an e-sim? I’ve never used one before but understand that’s the best way to go. (My phone appears to be capable of adding an e-sim.)

How old is my son? He’s “have a full supper, go watch his brother play flag football for an hour and then come home and have a second even larger supper” years old.

Welp, they made it close In a year where most of the AL sucked but ultimately not the Blue Jays year. They didn’t have the bats to compensate for an entire injured starting rotation and the defense was a step back from previous.

Shockingly difficult trying to find a youth size Blue Jays Okamoto t-shirt. Even on the official website, you can’t get a ‘choose your own jersey name/number’ thing for youth even if you wanted to shell out for the jersey.

They pulled off a few big wins after this, including some bullpen games, and went on a run but this was the breaking point should the Blue Jays not make it. You can only go so long with 2 starters and a wild card. Just ridiculous injuries this year.

WheatNOil@wheatnoil.bsky.social

That Bieber injury was really the last straw wasn’t it?

Once again, I am asking the Blue Jays to consider my health and feelings!

WheatNOil@wheatnoil.bsky.social

Were I the Blue Jays, I would’ve knocked a couple of those runners on base home early in this game to decrease Wheat’s heart rate. It’s as if they’re playing this game without any consideration of me personally.

So, hindsight is always 20/20 with pitching choices. But they held back Spencer Miles to go with Mantiply yesterday, which may have cost the game. But presumably that was so Miles to pitch bulk today. But then you put in Lorenzen in the 4th instead of Miles because…? I don’t get it.

In 1906, 27-year-old Canadian Peter Lymburger Robertson invented a new screw and screwdriver. Considered far superior to the Philips screw, the Robertson screw is now regarded as one of Canada's greatest inventions. This is the story. 🧵 1/8

Ah, so the White Sox have the season series over the Jays. So if Sox win the Division, then the Blue Jays have to tie the Guardians. If the Guardians with the Division, the Blue Jays have to beat the Sox. The Blue would also need to beat the Rangers or the Astros if they’re in the last WC spot.

WheatNOil@wheatnoil.bsky.social

So… just looking at the AL standings and… Who owns the tie-breaker between the Blue Jays and the White Sox? Blue Jays and the Astros?

Why… why would buy all that stuff in white? It’s going to get fully scuffed up immediately. Every mark is going to show. Your ‘palette’ will be wrecked in 1.5 days. I don’t even buy white clothes for my kids. Rookie upper middle class first time parent ass aesthetic.

Nuggiemetrics Sauconomics MoneyNugget Whatever you call it, this is sound sauce analysis here.

Mat Piscatella@matpiscatella.bsky.social

With an average saucey:nuggie ratio of .1375, we really are talking about egregious levels of sauce preciousness here. Bonkers that the 10 piece nuggie gets a 0.2 saucey:nuggie ratio, but the 40 piece falls to a baffling 0.1. A 0.2 ratio or below should really be considered borderline criminal.

Can’t believe we have a whole Male Loneliness Epidemic and we’re not getting more modern content like this. Dudes used to have hobbies is what I’m saying.

It’s kind of amazing that a team with Connor McDavid makes it easy not to pay nearly as much attention to them. I’m not boycotting them. But I’m also drifting. There’s other things I can do in my life. Other teams, other sports.

Once the money gets large enough it’s a fool’s game to be too morally superior about any particular sport or team. But… Oilers sign Babcock. Sign Formenton. You’ve already got Stan Bowman. If you decrease the peak of joy enough, it no longer justifies the pain of emotional investment in fandom.

There was a time when I knew everything about the Oilers. Every draft pick, minor transaction, and salary cap detail (sometimes better than employees of the team it seemed). As they brings in these guys that are hard to cheer for… it just deceases the desire for that degree of investment.

note to those of you still buying Crown Royal because it's "Canadian"

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Aaaaand to fully close the loop, it appears that just *last year*, Crown Royal closed down its last Canadian bottling plant and moved the operations fully to the United States, so Trump NOT take Crown Royal. globalnews.ca/news/1135417...
