Shortlisted 📸 We were one of the finalists for Partnerships for Impact at this year’s UK Digital Inclusion Awards. Not a win this time, but proud to be recognised for helping make knowledge open to everyone. Thanks #DigitalPovertyAlliance

Meet Gill Ryan 👋 She runs Perth Women on Wikipedia and this summer she became a beginner again. With a Wikimedia UK project grant, she spent two weeks at a residency in Catalonia working on underrepresented histories. New articles, first Wikidata queries, first edits in three languages 💛

Shwmae! 👋 It’s Shwmae Su’mae Day, so we asked Gemma Coleman, our Wales Programme Coordinator, for 5 ways to use your Welsh on Wikimedia projects, whether you’re fluent or learning. Ready? ⤵️ #shwmaesumaeday

Soap operas, series, fictional characters... Danilo has written 140+ Wikipedia articles on the subjects he loves. That same passion has added 33 women through Women in Red, helping close open knowledge's gender gap. Proud to have him in our Wikimedia UK community 💛

Today: the International Day for Universal Access to Information. This year's theme is information integrity in the digital age. AI writes a paragraph in seconds, checking it's true takes a person. Open, human-checked knowledge is the counterweight. What does reliable info mean to you?

We're proud to be part of the new N-RICH project, exploring how Wikidata and Linked Open Data can act as a shared connective layer for UK cultural heritage, helping collections, data services and research infrastructures connect across institutional boundaries.

Fairness starts with visibility. This International Equal Pay Day, we're reminded that closing the pay gap and closing the gaps in our shared knowledge are part of the same work because you can't value what you can't see.

One of our Heritage Lab fellows used the writing he produced with us as a sample in a successful PhD application! Open-knowledge work builds real skills and networks, not just articles. That's what our fellowship with The Heritage Lab set out to do.

Today marks 60 years of #LiteracyDay. Literacy is more than access to words, it’s also the ability to find, understand and question information. At Wikimedia UK, we champion free knowledge and the information literacy skills people need to navigate our digital world. #OpenKnowledge #Unesco

Galleries, libraries, archives and museums hold some of the UK's richest collections; most of it rarely seen beyond the building. We work with them to release collections under open licence, so they can be seen and reused by anyone, anywhere. A few examples 👇

One of the driest summers on record, and almost none of it is in the free, permanent public record. If you're in an affected part of England or Wales, upload your photos to Wikimedia Commons and help us complete the record 👇

We've been shortlisted for the 2026 Digital Inclusion Awards, run by the Digital Poverty Alliance, in the Partnerships for Impact category. Fitting for us: digital inclusion means media and information literacy for all, and open knowledge only reaches more people when we build it together 💪

The results are in 🌍 Congrats to the winning photographers of Wiki Loves Earth UK 2026. Stunning shots of the UK's natural scenes; now free for everyone to use. More Wiki Loves competitions to come, so follow along 👀

And that's Wikimania 2026 done. Last week Paris welcomed the global Wikimedia community and our team was there to connect, share ideas and bring a bit of it home with us. Swipe through for a few moments from our week 👉

Last Friday we celebrated our birthdays 🎉 Wikipedia turned 25 in January, and Wikimedia UK (us! an independent charity!) turns 15 this November. Congrats again to our Silver Jubilee Award winners: Andy, Kelly, Kirsty, Lucy and Martin 🥂 📸 Simon Crompton-Reid, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Our SandBox Sessions are back: free, online, beginner-friendly workshops on real Wikimedia skills. → 15 Jul: translating articles → 15 Aug: fixing Wikidata references (hands-on) → 16 Sep: the Wikidata toolbox All free. Registration links below 👇

Different reasons, same instinct: open knowledge is worth backing. We asked why people support us: some use Wikipedia daily, some want to push back on misinformation, some simply cherish it. Donate, or share our mission with someone who'd want to help. Thank you either way 💙

Where does a donation to a small charity actually go? For us, into people. We're an independent charity keeping knowledge open here. Your gift funds residencies, edit-a-thons, grants and training, so someone, somewhere, can reach knowledge they couldn't before. Donate, share or follow along.

Meet Owen Blacker our first in our Our Community series 💜 Chair of the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, he's grown it into a funded org with year-round staff and runs queer editing events in Cardiff. Thank you, Owen, for all you do for the community!

We've teamed up with First News, the UK's award-winning children's news brand (and 20 this year!), on a new lesson exploring how Wikipedia works and how to evaluate online information. Part of our free Wiki in Schools toolkit. Thanks to our Education Lead Dr Sally Latham 👇

History has too often left LGBTQ+ lives out of the record. Wiki Loves Pride is changing that: a global push to document and improve LGBTQ+ content on Wikipedia, so our histories stay preserved and free. Because everyone belongs in the record 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
