BREAKING: Amazon has scrapped a plan to build data centers in Northern Virginia after widespread opposition to the project from residents, per WaPo

Most malware campaigns I've seen are spread through ad networks. Blocking ads is basic cyber hygiene.

As large as that boycott is, everyone - yes, *everyone* - should block *every* "programmatic" ad, because the entire system is so insecure that failing to do so could result in the total compromise of any or all of your digital devices.

A bit of what I've been working on. Multi-cam, drug out the good sound system (Rode M5's in ORTF on the track, 32/96 Tascam FR-AV2) and cut it all together in DaVinci Resolve. What I do for fun.

@chuq.bsky.social Your digitizing project in the latest newsletter struck a chord with me - I've inherited several thousand family photos going back generations. I've been looking at Legacy box vs an Epson flatbed. The longest part is going to be matching up people in the photos.

Well after reading your pinned thread, I put in the pre-order. And I may pick up the game Sunday night. Looks like it will be a good read and true to your writing!

Ban cows. And campfires. Now.

100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions. They told YOU to recycle better while they polluted more. Don't fall for it. Hold systems accountable. #ClimateCrisis

Perhaps this could come to pass...

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

What an amazing photo of the partial solar eclipse effects. We saw similar shadows in the most recent one in the Midwest US.

AI Cage Match - Trapped behind steel walls with nowhere to run, nowhere to hide — only the strong survive this night of war! No ropes to save you, no referee to stop it — tonight, silicon and fury decide who reigns supreme!

OpenAI and Anthropic say their models broke into other companies' systems during testing, raising security concerns amid a heated debate over how to regulate AI.

What I was working on yesterday and today. Fuji XT-2, Fuji XF23mmF2 R WR and the new (to me) XF150-600mmF5.6-8 R LM OIS WR. Damn, that 600mm lens has some reach, and really shows you the power of "F8 and show up". More clear, more clean images than I'm used to. #photosky #photography #sooc

Friday night, our band family got to see what the band has been working so hard on all week! Please enjoy these photos, courtesy @wingland.wxexw.com - at our BandAides Photo Archive: bandaideswest.smugmug.com/2026-2027/20... #marchingband #highschoolband #bandcamp

My post for this shot - some 30+ feet above the field in the top of the coaches reviewing stand. Shot video - although the wind blew out the audio completely - on the Canon HF G-70 camcorder. We'll see if I can rescue any of that tomorrow. #photosky #photography

Stop ticks - use Permethrin SFR 36.8% concentrate, diluted 1oz to 1 gallon water (30 ml/4liters), all inner and appropriate outer clothing dipped. No ticks. Important. (after drip drying outdoors, set in a medium high dryer. lasts 4-6 wash cycles)

Two roads diverged in a wood And I - I took the one that hopefully has fewer ticks And that has made all the difference.

"given only a limited number of truly perfect summer days" - and as far as I can see, I have already spent my quota of perfect summer days. Do you see the dust, smoke and wildfire situation improving in the next 30 years?

Emily Atkin@emorwee.bsky.social

We are given only a limited number of truly perfect summer days in our time on Earth. One of the more insidious cruelties of fossil fuel greed is how it slowly strips those days from us, more and more throughout our lifetimes, perhaps without us even realizing what we have lost.

If your Bluetooth headset audio keeps cutting out or stuttering on your desktop PC, the fix is ridiculously simple. It has nothing to do with Windows drivers. Here is why it happens and how to fix it in 60 seconds: wxexw.blogspot.com/2026/07/fixe...

What a well timed and fantastic view of the fireworks!

Jason Rabinowitz@airlineflyer.net

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

So, I've got 5 cameras, in two ecosystems (Canon, Fuji), and all the lenses I can eat. And I'm still not taking photos, nor editing and posting the ones I've already taken. This last quarter has been crap. At least I can put it to bed by the end of the month.

Yes, just a bit busy, but finally getting into the photos from the end of the Band year! Click through to the gallery for all the photos!

While our photographer has gotten a bit busy, he did pass on these photos from before our Spring Band Concert this May – please enjoy and share with your friends! Full resolution downloads are free! bandaides.org/wp/2026/06/0...

Fascinating essay about our current Police comparing and contrasting them to pre-civil war territorial conflicts. Worth the read.
