TrenchBroom and Godot both open WAY fast than GameMaker I don't think it's just because my project is small right now either, I think GameMaker has a bunch of bloat/always connects to servers when booted #indiegamedev

a few screenshots from the survival-horror i'm working on heavily inspired by RE 0, 1, & 2 #screenshotsaturday #indiegamedev #gamedev #indiedev

I think an important part of gamedev, if you find yourself obsessing over small details often, is to ask yourself: "Will the player notice this? Will they care?" If the answer is No, then move on.

Not to say you shouldn't put in care and detail but if things start becoming blockers to your overall progress don't waste too much time on those things!! ...especially if the game is gonna be free :P

I think a big diff between today's games and games of the past (specifically 3D) is that graphical limitations allowed more room for our imaginations to fill in the blanks. Games today can be so realistic with such high fidelity but at the same be less fun and "video gamey" than older games.

I tend to go back and forth on liking or disliking "realistic" current gen graphics. If it's a game I'm truly excited for, like FFVII: Rebirth, I genuinely enjoy it. But it seems I get fatigued easier playing newer games, more so than if I play older games.

All in all I'm glad we have both, but more so glad there are still developers who lean more into artistic style over graphical fidelity. I think on a technical level graphics today are pretty amazing, but I still prefer the end result of an authentic art style over realism.

That's why when playing more modern games I tend to prefer those with distinct art styles like Borderlands. Also it's not like when N64/PS first launched we thought those games looked realistic. For example, I specifically remember thinking that the GoldenEye characters looked like shit.

on the new Final Fantasy Resonance game cool SE is making a classic HD-2D FF, even though I'm not a fan of HD-2D reason being I hope SE makes some new 3D "Pre-Rendered HD" style games again we really only got FF7, 8, and 9 in that style. A few more would be amazing! #videogames #finalfantasy 🎮

wonder what the redesign for Hyrule Field will be in OoT Remake? Playing it recently it does feel small when compared to modern games when I was a kid it felt HUGE, but actually the Sand Kingdom in Mario Odyssey is probably bigger lol I mean I hope they don't completely blow it out 🎮 #videogames

took me 2+ days to find and fix one bug, was some old ass code i forgot about in a room creation event then took me only 10 minutes to find and fix another bug I wish they all took only 10 minutes lolol #gamedev #gamemaker

it does make listening to music at the same time difficult i'm either not listening to music at all or constantly pausing songs in between testing

getting a nice sound for pushing boxes in Subatomix was absolutely daunting, but I'm happy with it the repsawn sound is sicko mode, reminds me of the shield recharge in Halo: CE #gamedev #indiegamedev #screenshotsaturday

sheesh, xbox wasted no time increasing their console price after valve released the price of the steam machine glad i've had a series s for a bit now wondering if i should get a switch 2 earlier than i planned, if that price will go up too

also fuck AI for this sort of bullshit of increasing electronic prices by buying everything up, not to mention the goddamn environmental impact

lmao

Halo: Campaign Evolved local split-screen on PlayStation 5 will require separate Microsoft-connected PlayStation accounts, but not PlayStation Plus. gameinformer.com/2026/06/22/h...

had a lot of fun making the controls page for Subatomix!! I could totally see myself getting lost in making an entire game manual. the design part of my brain likes it #gamedev #indiedev #indiegamedev #screenshotsaturday

added coyote time and jump queuing to Subatomix recently and found this fun bug can pretty easily super jump if you spam the jump button really really fast. like Mario Party fast it's actually kinda fun...? #screenshotsaturday #indiegamedev #gamedev 🎮

I was talking to a lawyer about AI, and he told me that there's super strict rules in law, where if you use generative AI that cites cases that don't exist, you can get disbarred and lose your license to practice anyway so what if game dev had a license, where if you- [gets hit over the head]

*cracks knuckles* Let's see if I can do this again... Is the internet just gonna explode tomorrow when Nintendo announces the Legend of Zelda: OoT remake?

i'm gonna guess in the next week-month there will be a Zelda Direct showcasing gameplay, then next year will 3D Mario and maybe they'll remaster SM64 too

saw some video today debating if new dungeon(s) would be good. I think yes as long as their quality matches the existing ones I also wouldn't mind a complete overhaul of the layout of the shadow temple, I think that one is too linear. and no no NO open world shrines

starting to see why they say the last 10% of finishing your game is the hardest there are so many little pieces and nuances that add up

oh this is cool, i can definitely see myself reusing this sort of float-and-disappear effect again in the future #indiedev #indiegamedev #gamedev #pixelart

We asked the Crystal Dynamics team about its use of generative AI in developing Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Here’s what Jeff Adams, experience director on the game, had to say.

initially the whole room was shown in full in early builds, but once I switched to pixel art the camera dimensions needed to stay fixed, else the pixels get distorted, which also means only part of the room could be shown if the room is larger than the camera dimensions

controller was easy, mouse not so much. i think cuz mice are precise and to me more like second nature. having to think about it on a technical level was challenging. almost gave up but quite pleased with how it turned out

ok now please Nintendo do not destroy my most favorite game of all time. I know there is always the original but just, don't, you know... yeah

I'm stoked they revealed the third part of FF7 remake. I won't say the remakes are perfect, but I've had a very enjoyable time playing parts 1 & 2 Most importantly I'm glad they now have the actual weapons. Thought about it recently and hoped they would evolve from their whale versions in part 2

Playing as Vincent with his beast transformations looks like it'll be fun. The airship + TotK style skydiving also looks like a nice treat. Not sure about those outfits though. Hopefully the also keep/update Queens Blood

+ Gen Atlas from Ico/Shadow of Colossus creator looks like it is shaping up nicely. Not to mention the RE: Code Veronica remake reveal finally!

Finally implemented level select in Subatomix. I was not looking forward to this but quite enjoyed it actually. Already had most of the code from other menus. Testing specific levels should also be much easier now. In future projects I'll implement this sooner. #gamdev #indiegamedev 🎮
