I think we should collectively call out ragebait behavior and mute/block it like we did with nazis and AI bros when we moved here from twitter. We don't need to spread it further.

This post is unavailable.

while researching AOL instant messenger for a MV, I came across SmarterChild the idea of commanding your computer in natural language runs deep, although the delusion required seemingly hasn't changed

1, 2 haferbrei, Kirby ist ein rosa Kerl 1, 2, oatmeal, Kirby is a pink guy they would rhyme if you switched languages halfway through the first line but you don't, so close yet so far

In my role as an artist I think about this line from the first book of Mozi sometimes: "Therefore, those who attempt what seems difficult to them will obtain what they desire, but few who aim at what they desire can avoid what they dislike." (W. P. Mei) (Mohism is a strange philosophy...)

As artists, at least the message from Mozi Book 1 still holds some water, I think. It's easy to make content you don't like for the sake of getting famous. Then when you don't get the traction you expected, you turn to the grift du jour, which doesn't address the real problem. It all wears you down.

Better to hold yourself to some standard and surround yourself with people who will do the same. Do projects you like for the love of the challenge. Don't worry about being called mediocre. And if you make it, don't worry about losing your spot. After all: "Position of the supreme is hard to keep."

To me this aspect of Mozi feels like a grab bag of counterarguments to Confucianism more than a super cohesive philosophical system. Maybe it's no wonder Zhuangzi would later call out Mo Di and the Mohists as representing an excess of argumentative ability which confuses the mind.

I should caution against taking the text as gospel. These are not commandments, but artifacts of a living philosophical tradition. Zhuangzi integrates Confucian and Daoist ideas, Xunzi Confucian and Legalist. Much later, Chan/Zen formed from Buddhist and Daoist ideas.

In one breath Mozi encourages you to hold yourself to strict standards, to surround yourself with skilled people who will not flatter you. In another he says that music and ritual are useless drains on resources. Then he condemns offensive war as pointless and advocates for a form of universal love.

Sometimes I have to simplify passages because they turn out not to be very musical when played by a human. But you can only simplify a 16th note run so far. The difficulty is inherent to the process of making the music; to me, practicing, sweating to be able to play it makes it worthwhile to play.

"A funny thing happened to me as I was building this mountain: I'd have an idea for a new obstacle, and I'd build it, test it, and it would usually turn out to be unreasonably hard. But I couldn't bring myself to make it easier." (Bennett Foddy in Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy)

Even a 3000°C ferrocerium spark can't set a whole log on fire at once. It burns itself out rapidly, while the log may only be warmed a bit. You have to build up the fire from tinder to kindling to small logs before whole logs will burn.

I guess you can just pour lighter fluid on the whole thing too and it will ignite fast, but in my experience all you get is a massive display of flames and fire at first, yet no guarantee that the big logs will stay lit after the liquid fuel is exhausted

I just love how Musescore.com now puts your uploaded score through a crowdsourced review process, and that the review feedback can simply be "Visual or layout mistakes" with no further detail. Real helpful

Oh great, now there's two of the same score I tried to upload, but one goes to a "Sorry about that page" and the other is still processing. Jankman, is that you in there?

there's a German folk song about a monk going into a convent and whipping it out for a nun and a website with the lyrics explained like "this was once so common, they built tunnels between convents and monasteries so they could fuck without the public finding out" truly horny finds a way
