The Insurrection Act: "What was once a fire extinguisher behind glass—clearly labeled “break only in emergency” to quell violence—now looks like a bottle of lighter fluid." My latest in @thebulwark.com

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Within living memory, when presidents invoked the Insurrection Act, they did so in circumstances that were extraordinary and in line with how the drastic act was intended to be used. No such circumstances exist right now. NEW from @markhertling.bsky.social: lnk.thebulwark.com/45zGbHF

Walz: "What's happening in MN defies belief. News reports simply don't do justice to the level of chaos & disruption & trauma the federal govt is raining down... This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of MN"

To those thinking Russia is winning in Ukraine: Imagine if when we invaded Iraq, we were almost four years into it, only occupied 20 percent, and lost a million men. Not a soul would call that “winning.”

Exactly

The Iraq War was a tragic mistake, but nobody was surprised that the US military took Baghdad in less than a month, even though Iraq is half a world away from the US. Meanwhile, Russia can’t get halfway across a country on its border. Losers.

Anyone who disparages the future of NATO or the importance of the American role in the alliance is strategically short sited. My latest in @thebulwark.com

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

NATO is not an alliance that can be judged by a single election cycle or a single strategy document. It must be understood in decades. And over those decades, NATO has always pulled through periods of tension or "alliance fatigue." lnk.thebulwark.com/4pAE7qK

Trump is dozing off in meetings. He’s wandering during ceremonies. His rants are more unhinged, his temper shorter, and he’s suddenly getting MRIs the White House can’t explain. Something is wrong — and they’re hiding it open.substack.com/pub/adamkinz...

open.substack.comThe Alarming Signs of a President in DeclineTrump is showing confusion, fatigue, erratic behavior, and unexplained medical tests — and the White House won’t level with the public about what’s happening.

Three things about the Witkoff tapes: 1) It appears Western intelligence services have decided to let Witkoff (and Trump) know they have recordings of their traitorous conversations w/Russia. 2) This Ukraine "deal" was all Witkoff's idea. 3) Congressional leaders should demand he be fired.

For what it’s worth, as a commander and officer it was my duty, moral obligation, and legal requirement to first question and then to not obey any illegal order I was given. The same is true for everyone who swear their oath. Hope that clears things up.

Let’s try this again it’s a new day. I’m bewildered that no one has answered. Dear MAGA: why would Donald consider pardoning Maxwell, a sex trafficker for Epstein? Again a reminder, Biden is not president and you guys called for the release of the files repeatedly. So… why?

I can understand the anguish from losing someone you looked up to politically. What sits wrong with me now is that we see none of that from some of the same people whenever children are murdered in school. Maybe we all agree it should all end

As more info comes in this needs to be said: if it wasn’t some left wing radical that did it, and it appears it wasn’t, there need to be massive pushback because they are STILL pretending it’s some culture war and it is only in their own minds Dangerous times

The second amendment guarantees the right to a militia to guard against federal tyranny. But if a president can use that force against its own state, against the wishes of that state, then it is no militia at all and a clear violation of the second amendment.

Putting the military on the street will lower crime. It does in North Korea, did in Nazi Germany, and in the book 1984. The question isn’t will it lower crime. The question is do we want to be a nation governed like this. Until 6 minutes ago the GOP believed in LOCAL control.

Trump is the most corrupt president in history. Lest we forget, Qatar gave him a jet… and the taxpayer is about to spend almost $1 billion to fit it for AF1 service. AND HE TAKES THE JET WITH HIM WHEN HE LEAVES OFFICE. Staggering corruption from a scumbag of a president

When employees are asked “what are the traits I want my leader to exhibit,” the number one answer is usually INTEGRITY. People want truth, not lies, excuses or misinformation.
