When it comes to actually achieving better cities, here’s something we’re not talking about nearly enough— we’ve moved from eras where it’s hard to get good things done, into an era where even if we manage to get good things done, there’s a real risk it will just be reversed after the next election.

Third poll in. Incumbent Janice Perrino off the board, with Boers and Coutu up. Krog still leads over Lovegrove and Dryden. Incumbent Thorpe at bottom of board for council.

10th poll inc not much change, the top of the rankings between Geselbrecht and Manly are tightening up. Former Mayor Bill Mackay is certainly not returning to council.

9th poll in. Krog still leads. Things shifting in the ranking for council. Coutu now in the middle over Hemmens. Spread widens for the botton for Thorpe over Perrino.

Third poll in. Incumbent Janice Perrino off the board, with Boers and Coutu up. Krog still leads over Lovegrove and Dryden. Incumbent Thorpe at bottom of board for council.

Councillors Geselbrecht, Manly, Eastmure topping the polls so far for council, followed by Armstrong, Hemmens, Coutu, Boers, and Thorpe.

Pardon a previous typo regard the Real Candidate for Mayor. We have 7 polls in now. Krog leads still, but is seeing more competition for his seat over 2022. Council ranking remains the same per previous. The spread for the bottom of the pack, between Thorpe and Perrino is about 700 votes.

Third poll in. Incumbent Janice Perrino off the board, with Boers and Coutu up. Krog still leads over Lovegrove and Dryden. Incumbent Thorpe at bottom of board for council.

Fourth poll in. Krog still leads over Lovegrove. Bad night so far for REAL Nanaimo with their mayoral candidate Anne Marie Dryden in third. Shut off the board for so far for council. Sandy Bartlett three positions away from the council cutoff.

One poll in, and we have Krog in the lead for mayor in Nanaimo, followed by REAL Nanaimo Sarah Loveove with Anne Marie Dryden in third. REAL so far off the board for council. Marnie Boers, Andrea Coutu on the board for council as non incumbents at the bottom.

Well. Nevermind the road trip to Kamloops today for the CAJ event. Departure Bay Ferry cancelled due to mechanical issues, and the earlier Duke Point Ferry had a one sailing wait that would have resulted in a missed event. Mentally, maybe I’ll just take this day off. 🫩

Not at all surprised that ChatGPT uses this kind of language to discuss a combat shotgun because this is just how dudes post on the gun forums that the model trained on

Luke LeBrun@lukelebrun.ca

This is absolutely deranged: Months before murdering 6 people and injuring 27 more, ChatGPT told the teen school shooter in Tumbler Ridge, BC that using a Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is “brutal” in a “hallway, indoors or a crowded classroom” because “close quarters” is that gun’s “playground”

The CentreBC party, which essentially agreed to let Milobar and his coalition of eight MLAs take over their party four days ago, is now big mad that all of them (with the exception of Elenore Sturko) seem to be returning to the Conservative fold Unclear what their political capital is now though

Another local elections piece by me. Get out and meet some candidates tomorrow evening and pick their brain on where they stand on environmental and climate issues.

Election signs are now up Nanaimo! John Little has been working on sign crews since 1984 in Nanaimo, the region, and even in other provinces. “As you can see, I just asked people to come out, and today we had 14 people come out,” he said. “It's amazing. If you ask people to help, they will help.”

It is only 7(!!!) more seats to go for the BC Conservatives half their seats since their election high of 44 seats in 2024. I wonder if I should open a betting pool...

Incredible, another!

A ninth(!) MLA has quit the BC Conservative caucus – the second today. Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis: “What I can no longer support are the direction, judgment, and decisions of Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s leadership.”

The idea that some BC Conservatives have that if only they could purge the "liberals/Liberals" out of their party—which is a coalition at its heart, a "big tent" as they say is bizarre. It's a losing strategy in this province.

Simon Little 🍁@simonplittle.ca

JUST IN: Áʼa꞉líya Warbus has quit the B.C. Conservative caucus and will sit as and independent. She is the 7th MLA to leave the party this month citing concerns with Kerry-Lynne Findlay's leadership.

Hah, incredible.
