My god, Nordstrom is turning into an Aritzia/Simons/Uniqlo, it's like retail voltron

Kenneth Chan@iamkennethchan.bsky.social

JUST IN... #Uniqlo will finally open a Downtown Vancouver flagship store. It will occupy a portion of the former Nordstrom at CF Pacific Centre mall, joining Aritzia and Simons. #vancre #retail dailyhive.com/vancouver/un...

Well that's a quick domino to fall: BC Ferries CEO Nicolas Jimenez is OUT. He was formerly appointed ICBC CEO in 2018, less than a year after the NDP took power. The board called it a "leadership transition" in an email, only mentioning Jimenez in the second last paragraph. which is very funny

A quick look at whether "the polls" were "right" in this election. Short answer β€” they all slightly missed the Conservative wave, and Mainstreet missed the mark on the Green vote. But overall, this wasn't a major error, and in line with what we've seen in wave elections with last week movement.

Yep, a further piece of evidence for "people who would have said they were voting NDP (or have in the past) just didn't show up to vote" in numbers quite outside their historic norms bsky.app/profile/cudd...

The most difficult part is matching the sample to the population. The sample probably had a variety of voters, but as per your other data, the population of voters featured far fewer NDP voters than I bet the sample anticipated. (And as always their polling tends to not be truly random).

Why did Canadians elect Mark Carney, British Columbians elect Lorne Doerkson, and Vancouverites elect Pete Fry and a bunch of COPE candidates? Allow me, the pundit, to explain that it's coincidentally due to my own beliefs about political strategy that I talk about all the time.

Alright you sickos here's your "speculate wildly about vote splitting" chart. In total, 13 ridings had a greater NDP+Green share than the Conservative winner. But given the margins and that Green voters aren't a monolith, I think only those top 4 Island ridings are a significant cause for wonder.

The absolute gift to the Conservatives to let them run a leader not chosen by the members.

Lorne Doerkson is speaking to media this morning and honestly so far this could be a Premier David Eby speech

god what do i do now other than my book tour and the mall podcast and restarting the grizzlies podcast and also my actual job which i have not booked time off from you know it’s possible i struggle with certain things

The Conservatives will end the night fairly close to the 900,000 or so votes they got in 2024. The NDP will go from just under 950,000 votes in 2024 to less than 700,000 this time. Turnout was down β€” but how much of it was demotivated 2017-2024 NDP voters who stayed home is a massive question.

One of tonight's story is a lot of former B.C. Liberal organizers who thought the party had become too conspiratorial minded or focused on their most passionate supporters took control of the party, told online influencers to pound sand and support One B.C. if they so dared, and were vindicated

That won't exactly be a silver lining to progressives this evening. But if you're interested in the overall ebbs and flows of the right-wing movement β€” not just in B.C., but across the country β€” this will be used for many internal arguments in the weeks and months ahead.

five weeks ago lorne doerkson was vacationing in africa while the conservative party was immolating and david eby was diving head first into a snap election call over the wishes of municipalities life comes at you fast

IT'S OFFICIAL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 93 YEARS, THE B.C. CONSERVATIVE PARTY WILL LEAD THIS PROVINCE CBC IS PROJECTING A MAJORITY GOVERNMENT LORNE DOERKSON GOES FROM AN UNKNOWN MLA TO THE NEXT PREMIER OF BRITISH COLUMBIA IN FIVE WEEKS

Looks like the David Peterson Award Committee has scheduled an unspecified announcement for later.

For TV stations, election nights are a huge team effort, and I'm so honoured to play a distinct role with our talented group. We get to bear witness to history and report it in real time, and I hope you appreciate β€” if not necessarily enjoy β€” our coverage tonight.

tapping this sign so hard at so many people this week

Getting this out of the way early: if you share vote prediction screenshots for individual ridings from election projection websites And frame it as a poll or something with authority And there has been no actual polling done in that riding I will think much less of you please don't annoy me

this stuff is always inevitably taken too seriously by too many people every election, and then things are wrong, and then they get amnesia in the next election, and it just creates a lot of unhelpful discussions based on vibe science general understanding is good, but this ain't that

You can say "the Green Party got 8% last election, and they're doing better that in the polls, so it's likely they will semi-comfortably win the two seats they held last time, and depending on a collapse of the NDP vote could pick up 1-3 more" But that's less fun. Can't be a chart.

this month will be much more fun to look back at than it was to juggle everything in the moment, but 20 year old Justin would go β€œwait you’re complaining about what?!?” and it’s an incredible privilege that enough people like and trust me to have these opportunities but also i can’t wait for sleep

The joys of MCing an event for an author and taking questions and one of them is β€œcan you talk about how the media has some responsibility for the housing crisis, I read a CBC article about why Pete Fry won that didn’t mention affordable housing” and you’re like β€œyeah that’s my article, let’s go” πŸ˜
