I’ve written a book about building belonging in schools! It’s called Building Belonging in Schools! I argue that 1. kids feeling belonging is important just because But 2. If we want them to really learn lots, for rigour to be high, then they need to feel secure in their class. Preorder now!

1. Take a tour with me around the bars of Bole Road in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in the late 2000s. It was a wild time and I think I'm a decent guide. This might be sporadic. If you want more encourage me! If you're in you'll need some context. That's up next.

What do you think of the term 'experts at hand'? I've just been having discussions at @naplic.bsky.social journal club and there was some unease about it. Does it set up the expectation of teams coming in to 'fix' children, which is the opposite of the inclusion ambition? #SEND

This is an incredibly well written article about a family's experience of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). Really useful if you've never heard of DLD and insightful if you know lots about it.

Just read a comment on a DLD post that said 'this is caused by COVID vaccinations.' Before I could respond I checked the other comments. A total pile on from parents putting them right! Yes!

Anyone need a genuinely *nice* story for this Wednesday? "Takahashi thought the lost barrel might be adrift somewhere on the Bering Sea by now. Or, he imagined an 'Alaskan bear wearing my down jacket or like, playing my flute...'"

cbc.caB.C. man reunited with beloved flute, 5 years after it floated away down a Yukon river | CBC NewsJun Takahashi was stunned when he saw the online post: someone in the Yukon bush had found a canoe barrel full of his mildew-y camping gear, and his long-lost flute.

Today is DLD day! The day for raising awareness of Developmental Language Disorder. Around 1.3 million children and young people have DLD, but awareness is now and so they go unidentified and unsupported. This impacts on learning and mental health. Let's change that #DLDday #DevLangDis

My boys first words were 'fuckin dog' because the dog used to sit by the high chair waiting for dropped food and we'd always trip over him and mutter 'fuckin dog'. We managed to change his new vocab to 'chicken dog'.
