BREAKING: U.S. President Donald Trump calls listening to Workers' Lit episode on "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" a "Life changing experience" "I will now commit the rest of my life to the destruction of the Euro-Capitalist empire," Trump says in a surprise speech, "Nukes for Europe inbound!"

UPDATE: President Trump confirms that major American cities are included among targets of the imminent nuclear attack. "The sins of the white race may be expunged only through fire," the President informed WL News.

We talk about this in the ep, but even beyond the humanitarian lens it is absolutely VITAL from a population perspective, a climate perspective, and a resource perspective to understand the unequal relationship between Africa and the global economy if you want to engage in 21st century geopolitics.

Have y'all heard about this whole "European colonialism" thing? It's bad news, folks On this week's Workers' Lit, Isaac of the SDCC joins us to talk about the great Guyanese historian Walter Rodney and his masterwork, "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa." Listen now wherever you get your pods!

Africa is the beating heart of the global working class. This shouldn't just be understood from a moral perspective, but a material one. Our capitalist world order *does not function* without the hyper-exploitation of Africa. There's a reason African liberation movements are among the most demonized

Thinkers like Walter Rodney provide an essential framework for understanding how we got here, and in which direction things may evolve. Listen to our episode, then go read more of Rodney's work. It's essential to each of our political development.

Africa is the youngest, the fastest growing, and the most resource-rich continent on the planet. It is also the continent most prone to climate shocks despite having a very low per-capita fossil fuel footprint. If you don't think anything will come of all that, then read what I said again.

Despite huge inequities that remain, Africa is now more educated than ever before. Many of the disruptions we've seen in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, and the Sahel are correlated to the disconnect between education and quality of life. The youth demand the future they've earned.

Walter Rodney was barely thirty when he wrote this one. It's critical for understanding the unequal exchange undergirding the so-called rules-based international order, under which imperialist countries like the United States and its European allies make the rules and give the orders.

I'd be happy to quit caring about foreign elections if: 1. My country's government/billionaires stop meddling in them 2. The habitability of the planet doesn't partially depend on their outcomes

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

I (Rahab) wrote an article about one of the worst and most influential Christian fascist figures in American history, Tim LaHaye. This is also my first ever publication under my real name. Pretty fucking cool!

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

Even if I'm on the outside looking In it's beautiful to see an alliance of Elon Musk, Meta, the evangelical power structure, the Israel lobby, the gambling lobby, AND the U.S. State Department eat shit

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

The average American is ignorant on trans issues and has fallen prey to an impossibly well-funded campaign of anti-trans demonization. This trend would be easily reversible if the Democratic Party could manage to find a crumb of spine on this issue.

I was joking around when I wrote this but if anyone (Jacobin or otherwise) would like to pay me a little money for the only good and principled article ever written about why young men aren't reading very much my DMs are wide open.

Workers’ Lit Podcast@workerslit.bsky.social

@jacobinmag.bsky.social If you would like someone to write an actually good article about the decline of literacy in young men (rather than blaming it on women and a "feminized culture") we will happily oblige. Won't be including talk about Lonesome Dove though.

This is genuinely a really fun and good episode. If you're one of the like three people who wish we still did our old news episodes you cannot let yourself miss out on Article Brain!

It's time for some ARTICLE BRAIN! This month we dive into a truly terrible piece from Jacobin that suggests men are discriminated against in literature, then we move into Larry David's bizarre "socialism is when government take toothbrush" op-ed Listen here: www.patreon.com/WorkersLit/p...

It's going to be a blast! Make sure to tune in!

This week at 8AM EST/11 AM PST the Eclectic Radical returns! I will be joined by Ray from the @workerslit.bsky.social podcast to talk about modernity, modernism, and fascism. I haven’t talked about poetry and literary criticism in awhile, so I’m really looking forward to it!

✅listen to ep @ work ✅cry @ work ✅go home, reread MFH for the 3rd time in as many years Could’ve listened to hours & hours of this convo tbh. The circular narrative was such a marvel to me, such a gut punch of a revelation, that I immediately went back & reread pg.1 when I finished the book.

LET'S GO LESBIANS!!! This week the great @amalelmohtar.com joined us to talk about "Metal From Heaven," a truly wild novel about building parallel power structures, workers' uprisings, lesbian sex, gender, and becoming Commie Jesus. Listen for free wherever you get your podcasts!!

The Workers' Lit Podcast. Each new episode is our best episode yet, a record we will break next week, and then the next, and so on.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

This is a PATREON EXCLUSIVE. You might be thinking, "Fuck, that means I can't listen to it." But don't fret! For a mere $5 that barrier of exclusivity will melt away, and you will join the ranks of the elect.

You'll hear conservatives say that mental illness started with Millennials, then you read a 200 year-old book and it's all gay guys throwing themselves on the ground in weeping fits or manic ladies beating their brains out against the wall and everybody's like, "Yeah that happens sometimes."
