That RFK clip is ghastly, but it's totally consistent with the Islamophobia that has been coming out of this administration, including Trump's rhetoric about Abdul El-Sayed. They are all in on the hatred of Muslims because it's a formula that has worked before.

Hey, quick question there, Bob: After we finish learning basic arithmetic operations, what's the next stage in math education called? You know, "the one with the letters"?

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Imagine claiming that the culture that gave us Kahlil Gibran - to limit the list to just one name likely to be included in an American high school curriculum - "doesn't produce literature"

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

Every one of these I see, I think of the number of anxiety & panic attacks I've had over missing (or outgrowing) a kid thing. I'm always fine in the long run, of course, but this is beyond a different parenting philosophy. I'm not sure I'm even on the same planet as these parents.

RFK Jr. suggests Americans can more easily afford groceries if they start eating liver instead of beef: "Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. You can buy liver or the cheap cuts."

When I was born, a new mystery illness was appearing. The next ~decade, over 100,000 Americans died of it. By middle school, we knew what it was, but could only delay dying of it... for intense side effects & thousands of dollars. Before I have grandkids, it's likely we'll have a functional vaccine.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Hi, The Government. Since you seem extremely worried about our mental health, please be assured: We are already anxious, at all times, and about all things. You may now remain unworried over your impact on our sanity as you return to providing advice that isn't a waste of everyone's time.

The government dropped plans to tell households to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours during emergencies, because of concerns it could prompt anxiety about why the advice was being issued

We got one of these a few years ago, and my kids thought it was so cool they didn't want anything to hurt it. They built it a home in an old aquarium and fed it on weeds until it went into pupation/hybernation mode. And the next spring we suddenly had a giant moth in our kitchen! It was very cool ❤️

When we say there are some good uses for AI --- this is what we mean! Humans can keep making art and writing music, but computers can be REALLY GOOD at crunching reams on reams of data. And THAT'S what we should be using them for. We just don't want to spend the hurricane party reading its novel!

As a small person who spawned enormous offspring, here's my expert analysis. Where VR fails is in the planning. There's no quick swing to the hip anymore - we're at least 4 years past that. You've GOT TO do your squats. Lift with your legs; your back just doesn't play this game on this level. 👇

Tim Price@timprice.bsky.social

Oh yeah that’s the good stuff

But it IS possible. You're going to get down on their level, and then get organized. There's 2 of you, and this is now a team sport. Get secure while STILL SQUATTING. And then you're going to stand all 160% of your base weight back up. This is where you find out if you're overpaying at the gym. 👇

With a kid who's less than 100% committed to doing their part? This is a losing battle. With a kid who doesn't even know you?? Only God can help you now. So what you have to ask yourself is ... how sure am I that the angels are on the side of my political career? And VR got his answer.

I have to Reset the display every time I get in, because a SENSOR went bad. There's nothing wrong with the system, but the defective sensor thinks there is, and thinks telling me so is more important than letting me see my odometer, speedometer, or gas gauge.

If you are incapable of behaving safely in a given space, if you are harming others, you don't get to be in that space. That is unfortunate, and I'm sorry you might miss out on some fun. But you can't be there. Because of THE HARM YOU ARE DOING, not your labels. They are NOT THE SAME THING.

So many autistic/neurodivergent women (which I bet describes a LOT of women in the Silicon Valley AI scene) report being *specifically* targeted by sexual predators who take advantage of their issues with reading social situations. Which is why I loathe the “oh, those poor autistic men” excuse.

The farther you make it into your education before you hit The Speedbump, the more devastating it is. When there's never been a *need* to learn study skills or perseverance ... they just don't exist when they're needed.

And the very rare people who make it to/past college before their bump finds them? Often avoid dealing with it altogether, by declaring everything that presents difficulty as Not Worth Knowing, A Waste Of Valuable Time. Keep that in mind when Smart People tell you what does/doesn't matter to learn.

We talked about it a lot bc I was teaching math, & for almost all Smart Kids, their very first interaction with The Speedbump usually happens somewhere between Algebra 2 and Calculus. They've been getting straight A's on cruise control through their ENTIRE math career, and then BAM 🌟trigonometry🌟.
