The 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 5.12% from 5.15%, while the 2-year rose to 4.79% from 4.77%. That kept a key borrowing benchmark elevated for mortgages and business loans.

French 10-year bond yields broke above 5% for the first since 2002 this morning. 55% of their outstanding debt is owned by investors in other countries. The Japanese have positive real yields in their own bond market. Germany's bunds are the safety trade in Europe. I don't know who buys OATS now.

Rep. Gilbert Cisneros (D-Calif.) bought $BHE on Oct 1, and the trade was between $15,001 and $50,000. The next thing to watch is how markets weigh rates after this morning’s September CPI report. We watch every Congress trade the day it posts.

The 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.24% on Oct. 9 from 5.22%, and the 2-year climbed to 4.80% from 4.75%. That longer-term rate affects the cost of mortgages and business loans.

Higher oil prices move money from drivers to shareholders. Oil companies are extracting roughly the same amount of oil, but the price per barrel keeps going up.

Another data point suggesting September's renewed labor market strength (not apparent in the jobs report!) has continued into early October

An all around weak -- but not tragic -- payrolls report for September. +29k jobs created, about 60k below expectations. Revisions made both July and August look weaker, too. Over the past 3 months, we've an average of a mere +17k per month.

Here’s the US Treasury market reaction to the soft jobs report. Note the continued retracement in 2-year yields as traders moderate Fed rate hike expectations. The next major data catalyst here will be CPI inflation on October 14th. (Bloomberg data below.) #economy #markets #bonds #inflation

As illustrated in this CNBC chart, it has been quite a month for the fixed-income market. The 10-year yield has moved up by around 50 bps to its highest level since 2007 (with a slightly larger move for the 2-year, while the 30-year has reached levels not seen since 2002). 1 of 3
