The Japanese culture is unmatched. Instead of trashing stadiums like most American fanbases, they brought blue trash bags (which they used at the games as cheering pom poms) and they clean up after the games including making sure the locker rooms are tidy. #WorldCup2026

To the people of Los Angeles: I hope tonight you will show the world that the people of the US are still their friends, despite all the recent craziness. Show the Iranian team the warmest possible welcome at the #WorldCup2026 match tonight.

A bit late, but worth repeating

Here’s to the mothers, matriarchs and maternal figures in our lives, who protect and guide us, navigate our tantrums and show us unconditional love. Happy #MothersDay to all those fulfilling this special nurturing role, in whatever form it may take. 💚

When they mentioned that the crew was now on its way home, my first thought was “awww, make ‘em stay up there longer!” It’s just so cool, so historic. Restores my faith in the U.S. and humanity in general. Nice to say I have some heroes again. I don’t want this to end.

We’ve started to ask whether US aggression — overseas and at home — will suppress investment & hiring. So far, JPM says no: .. the gap between uncertainty indices and the VIX “suggests .. markets are more buoyed by a risk-on, procyclical environment than pressured by risk-off geopolitical strains.”

Yes because if oil companies in a ballroom isn't what America is all about, then what are we even doing?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

REPORTER: The Capital Planning Commission is concerned the 89,000 square foot ballroom is going to dwarf the rest of the rest of the WH. Do you worry about that? TRUMP: No no. People love the ballroom. We need it. If we would've had the ballroom today, we could've had all the oil companies there.

So we all know that plants take in CO2 and give back oxygen. (It’s actually more complicated than that, but that’s another thread.) They use the carbon to build stuff like stems and roots and so on.

A fascinating thread on native plants and prairies and carbon sequestration. No seriously, it’s really interesting! #NativePlants 🌿

Fiiiine, apparently half my readers enjoy an info dump, so here we go! Grasslands Sequester Carbon Too or “Why trees are not the be-all and end-all.” Ahem. *takes a sip of water*

After WWII, Karl Jaspers is associated with the quote: "That which has happened is a warning. To forget it is guilt. It must be continually remembered. It was possible for this to happen, and it remains possible for it to happen again at any minute. Only in knowledge can it be prevented."

It’s clear now why I found this Olympics/ Paralympics so captivating. Aside from their own merits, which were substantial, they provided an escape from the election and multitude of other problems of the world. I could focus on the world coming together in peaceful competition. So very refreshing!
