Excited to read this article. This morning I was just working with tree-ring data that vividly display the role of Indigenous people on influencing the "wilderness" forests of the Lake Superior basin prior to the arrival of Europeans. The fire data is from the Missouri lab highlighted here.

We're approaching spooky season, so buckle up for our new series! :) Burrowing Owls may be the least spooky owl, but this one is trying. Fun fact: Burrowing Owls can tolerate higher levels of carbon dioxide than most #birds. This adaptation helps them thrive underground, where CO₂ can accumulate.

We had a wonderful time at our community bird banding demonstration at Oxbow Nature Study Area last month! Among the #birds we banded were American Goldfinches and Bewick’s Wrens. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning so much fun! #banding #TruckeeRiver #ThankYou!

Looks like we might have spooked this Long-eared Owl instead! These secretive, nocturnal owls often roost in large groups during winter, making them easier to spot despite their excellent camouflage. #birds #owls #SpookySeason #FunFacts

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.
