Of all the terrible donation begging strategies I see in my inbox this morning, the one that turns my stomach the most is the one that purports to be from James Carville. Is that a selling point for anyone, anywhere these days? Go away, James Carville

Ossoff: "The crisis we must meet is deeper than this presidency. Trump's rise is proof that business as usual has failed, that our politics, sickened by corruption, is failing the American public and compromising our national integrity. And that the hour is late to fix what's broken."

31. That's why I hope the Democrats recognize Schmitt as being representative of the malign project that is holding up Trump. Inept, incompetent, sinister, evil – the root of it all is corruption.

Headlines today should be: "Trump calls on his supporters to "cheat like hell" in 2026 election." Followed by: "Trump was charged with crimes for attempting to overturn the 2020 election and incited the Jan 6 terrorist attack to remain in power despite losing." But corporate media won't do that!

Establishing the principle that POTUS is *not* above the law is worth all the time and resources it might take. If we don't do that, the republic is over and we have a king. #ImpeachConvictRemove

As a way to distract myself from some terrible things, I made a terminate & stay resident trainer for the DOS game Zeliard If you're in to that sort of thing, check it out #DOS #DOSGames Turbo Pascal code and ready-to-use EXE available on github github.com/jasontatem/z...

Might follow it up with a save game editor Some clever programmer 40 years ago decided to make the in-memory representation of a lot of the game state match exactly to how it's laid out in the save files. Thank you, that saved me a lot of time!

This makes twice now that Grafana Cloud's free tier has redefined limits in a way that makes my existing usage no longer free 2nd one surprised me because I thought I'd pointed everything elsewhere. Thanks for helping me find the bad config, I guess? The forgotten bits alone are too much now, lol

I remember a few years ago thinking "wow the lowest level paid tier barely adds anything over the free tier" That's one way to fix that problem!

the US president, with the explicit support of the US legislature and the US supreme court, is stealing billions of dollars in thousands of ways. meanwhile the NYT is on the case of whether, when mamdani paid a thousand dollars for a knicks ticket out of his own pocket, he got a ticket for VIPs

Got a survey from what appears to be Brad Smith doing some prep work to run for WV governor There was a question that asked where I saw WV's future. Option 1 was basically "coal". Option 2 was "AI datacenters". Option 3 was "not sure." This survey sucks

hey its actually a gigantic problem that 1 of the 2 major political parties in this country are consistently claiming any election they dont win has been “stolen” or “rigged”

Probably a terrible idea, but what if there was a community sourced pool of money that would be paid to a journalist with press pool access who asks questions set by the community and refuses to let them go, pushing through any pushback, insults, and topic changes? Might give em a little courage

I've set up a bot account to post hourly indexes of EMS ambulance reports my radio system picks up. Each entry links to a page where you can play the audio and read the transcripts Right now if there's too much to fit in a single post it just does nothing, will add overflow threading later

I want to set up booths where the public can take the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and decide for themselves whether Trump should be bragging about his performance

I really like the framing that LLMs exploit a human cognitive shortcut. When we encounter something that dynamically reacts to what we say, we assume sentience. This has been a useful assumption for millennia

The sycophancy of many LLMs makes it worse. Most of the time, we'd prefer to be told we're right rather than be told we're wrong, and we prefer interactions that support our existing beliefs rather than challenge them

Considering both factors together, AI psychosis isn't terribly surprising. We're not well equipped for interacting with automatic yes-men who are available 24x7x365 and will entertain any topic

The evidence has been there that we're susceptible. I can remember some childhood friends of mine who were way too impressed by Dr. Sbaitso and other Eliza-like programs. Just a bit of light dynamic interactivity is enough to make us think something might have sentience

LLMs provide a level of dynamic interaction that was just not possible with earlier approaches. This breaks the brain's expectations. It's easier to believe you're talking to something with sentience and intelligence

Phone menus and pre-LLM support bots were always too precise in their repetition, obviously mad-libbing their way through a rigid script. Nobody thought they were sentient. There were no news stories about someone in love with their phone menu girlfriend

it's a treat watching people invisible to at least 4/5 of americans fret over how a rubber chicken dinner no one gives a fuck about will be interpreted when any of them could become one of the most trusted voices in the country by interrupting a lying presidential rebuke by telling him to suck eggs

I don't know if the constitution has failed us, but I sure know these conglomerations of pathetic worms in the shape of men have failed the constitution. If the constitution is broken, it is quite literally because the founders could not conceive of men so spineless. It never occurred to them!

Been thinking a lot lately about how a lot of folks would know the name Joseph McCarthy Quite a few of those folks might have awareness of the "Have you no sense of decency?" moment But how many remember who spoke up and said those words? The bad guy got more of a legacy than the good guy

Also since I'm thinking of McCarthy... Don't forget that Roy Cohn was McCarthy's chief counsel during his witch hunts. And Roy Cohn mentored a certain Donald J Trump

ICE keeps saying the people protesting it are being paid without any evidence, but we have receipts showing that the people *defending* ICE are absolutely being paid. And yet we only hear lies about the former on cable news.
