When I'm having a bad day, I reframe it by pretending I'm showing the future to someone from the past. "Cell phones are computers now. You can wirelessly send any song ever made to your car radio. Those election signs? We've been fighting fascism for 12 years. Oh, and we have a Starbucks now!"

This past weekend, Google DeepMind was the only model that pegged Cyclone Arnab hitting Cat 4 intensity by today. All the others kept it Cat 1 at most. Lo and behold:

Trying to learn Python from scratch is extremely frustrating because most resources assume you're a veteran computer scientist and this is your fifth programming language.

All I want to do is get ACE data and tropical cyclone genesis points without having to comb through IBTrACS or HURDAT2 by hand and I guess I need to go back to college and get a second degree to do it.

Brazil and Serbia beat back fascism this weekend. The U.S. will do it in 9 days.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

And that's why you don't call a snap election in the middle of a global anti-incumbency backlash.

Polling Canada@canadianpolling.bsky.social

With 12% in, this will be a Conservative government (Likely a majority, but waiting just a bit longer on that)

This is the sportsiest tweet you'll ever see from me. I was an avid baseball watcher in elementary school. I've lived an entire life off Al Gore's internet.

Talking with a friend about how India's Met Dept did a good job forecasting Phailin when most other agencies expected it to hit near peak intensity. Lo and behold, PolarWx has the JTWC's forecast at the time!

Since this president took office, we've seen: - NWS layoffs hit short-staffed offices - Reduced weather balloons directly affect forecasts - Shutdown of NCAR as political retribution - Funding/data cuts to next-gen satellites - International weather observations blocked What's next?

The NWS intentionally blocked off international observations without issuing any service change notices about it. If anyone in the agency has information on who ordered this change and why, my email address is my name at gmail.

Heck of a closing message to swing voters with 11 days until polls close.

These pages no longer provide international observations. It's a good thing that weather stops at international borders. 😢

People try to pretend that today's politics is "just a difference of opinion" when the President of the United States is defending heinous child abuse so his party wins.

Breaking News: President Trump lashed out at critics of Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad that features the estranged mother of Dr. Amy Acton, Ramaswamy’s Democratic opponent for governor, and urged him to keep airing it.

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

This is the kind of scandal we used to enjoy. Letterman would do ten minutes on it. There would be email forwards.

A former director of Florida’s problem gambling hotline was sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison after prosecutors said he stole nearly $1.5 million from a previous employer to feed his gambling habit.

I know the polls are generally accurate when That One isn't on the ballot. But man...something's got me uneasy about it.

New NYT and Strength In Numbers polls this morning showing roughly same thing regarding national environment, around D+11-12 lead for Dems in the generic ballot depending on population. Double digit margin now a 50-50 chance in my modeling of all polls www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-10-21...

Today's tornado risk in Arizona is very rare, but so is the potential for 2"+ diameter hailstones. SPC's database reflects just 35 reports of 2"+ diameter hail in Arizona since 1955--or a little under 3% of all the state's severe hail reports.

Dennis Mersereau 🛰️ reposted

We need to take a moment to appreciate how rare this particular enhanced risk for severe weather is out in Arizona… - First 5% tornado risk since Aug 2023 - First enhanced risk since Sep 2019 - First enhanced risk to include the Flagstaff, AZ CWA in the modern 5-category outlook era. #AZwx

I'm gay as hell and I don't talk about men like this.

Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

Super Typhoon Champi now has 185 mph (160 kt) winds and a pressure of 895 mb, making it the world's strongest storm so far in 2026 in terms of winds. Hurricane Polo in September had a slightly lower pressure (892 mb) but slightly 'weaker' winds at 180 mph.

A rare and significant risk for severe weather will develop over parts of Arizona on Wednesday. Very large hail (2"+ in diameter), damaging winds, and a couple of tornadoes are possible. This appears to be the highest categorical severe weather risk on record for both Flagstaff and Prescott.

I switched from Spotify to the radio and they were playing the exact same song I had on, just a few seconds off. I thought my radio glitched out for a second.

Elizabeth Dole's "there is no God" ad against Kay Hagan got her run out of North Carolina. Ramaswamy's disgusting attack against Acton should get him run out of public life, period.

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Amy Acton's brother reacts to Vivek Ramaswamy using their estranged mother in an ad: "...Our birth mother stayed married to Amy’s rapist until he died. This desperate, disgusting attack reveals exactly who Vivek Ramaswamy is at his core – a pathetic excuse for a man who is willing to hurt anyone.”

I actually said "wow" out loud near the end.

Evolution of Super Typhoon #Champi over the last 24 hours. Watch until the end to see the rapid deepening over the past 6 hours following what was likely ERC.

I read the Alberta referendum questions and some of them were incredibly leading. Holy moly. North Carolina's amendments this year suck (as usual), but at least they use straightforward language. 🥴

32°F right now. 😍 I'll have to check the last time we strung together three freezing mornings this early in the season.

KSIF is down to 31°F right now. Second freezing morning in a row. We can't do much around here, but we sure can do some radiative cooling.
