i was really interested to see which form of the imperative the translator would use for the opening line. persian second person has similar rules as french based on number and politeness. so it was like. well the audience is a stranger and also more than one person, so that’s cut and dry BUT

so many of the characters are quakers who as a demonstration of Belief In Human Equality default to thou for everyone, the tu or Ψͺو equivalent, that’s fallen out of usage. but idk how well that distinction would translate culturally, or if esmail-agha would come off as super rude from the jump

i sat down to watch obsession (2026) last night and though my horror-fear sense is largely anesthetized i had to nope out after the third time they showed his dead pet cat. that was NOT the emotion i was ready to deal with

it was mainly like. the idea of leaving something out for the cat to get into and she does and dies from it. you'd have to put me on a 24/7 wellness watch. the hypothetical guilt was making me ill

this remains a great study of the estranged parents movement, and one of the almost universal features of these narratives is the missing missing reasons--the extreme caginess with which these parents present the events that led to the estrangement

The other category of coverage is *extremely* implausible first-person accounts from estranged parents. According to this woman, her son cut her off after she was mildly rude to his fiance's family a single time. There's no way this is the entire story. www.goodhousekeeping.com/relationship...

it feels too on the nose for my go-to absolute favorite chelo kebab place to be named β€œmoby dick house of kebab” but that’s what it’s called. i didn’t make that choice, they did. anyway if ahab had had some of this kubideh things would’ve turned out different

the past couple days i've gotten adds for some mgm+ (???) show that's claiming to be a long john silver origin story as if black sails (2014-17) doesn't exist. i bet they don't have any central gay people. i bet they don't even have a hurdy gurdy

i find this professor character so deeply relatable. all his stuff focuses on the tv show "who's the boss." i would not be more respectable with my nonsense about national treasure. i know i'm a joke of a person. representation matters etc.

i finished this today and it ABSOLUTELY whips. so cool, extremely prescient (being written in 1996), doesn't hold your hand at all. author came out as trans in the time after it was written and there's a sizable bit like "oh yeah you're working some stuff out here huh" (complimentary)

a friend of mine recommended THE FORTUNATE FALL by cameron reed earlier this year and i’m finally reading it (it whips) and i cannot remember if the MOBY-DICK references were part of her original sales pitch. either way what a delight

learned yesterday about the legend where my great-times-10 grandpa's was saved from execution by a gnome who owed him a favor. very much a "yeah i'll incorporate that into my belief system" situation. gnomes exist. grampa godfrey got away

the story beginning referenced in the opening is based in how persian-language fairy tales start: یکی بود یکی Ω†Ψ¨ΩˆΨ― which is exactly how my family thought i'd be using that piece of my education, yknow

one day i will go for a walk-in buzzcut at the local haircuttery and they won't look at me like it's the wildest thing they've ever heard. it's almost as if they haven't heard of katie "boots" quinn on season four of the hit appletv show ted lasso. or a trans person
