Glad to have contributed to this article as an EGU Cryoblog Editor! An interesting read on microbial activity and modelling in ice sheets.

In an interview with Dr Tilly Woods, explore the world of microbes 🦠 on the surface of ice sheets ❄️, and how we can represent this landscape using the power of mathematics. Read more below 👇 blogs.egu.eu/divisions/cr...

A new study argues that natural multidecadal trade wind shifts—rather than a failure of climate models—primarily drove the unexpected cooling of the eastern tropical Pacific from 1982 to 2024, masking greenhouse-gas warming in the region temporarily. 🌊🧪 ocean2climate.org/2026/09/01/w...

ocean2climate.orgWhy the Pacific is Cooling in a Warming WorldDerived from Figure 2 in Xie et al. (2026). Observed and simulated 1982–2024 trends in equatorial ocean temperature. Linear trend of equatorial (2.5°S to 2.5°N mean) ocean temperature trends (°C/de…

It's unlikely to be this extreme, but this morning's UKMO model run has insane heat heading up from France in about a week's time. 850hPa temperatures of 24C in the south would support surface temperatures near 40C. ECM has 850s touching 20C, supporting surface high temps of 35C.
