Had some really interesting conversations at Squarespace Circle Day last week about customers' and clients' AI usage and preferences. As a result, we've added a team-wide AI kill switch into @eventuallyticketing.com. AI-powered features should be there if you want them. But you can always opt out.

Yay! So pumped this is out! Our first podcast together. Absolutely loved talking with @jeremysmith.co and @bjessbrown.com. Fun fact: we recorded our end of this at the @kit.com studios here in Chicago.

Episode 77 just got sliced! 🍕 Kelsey (@bykelseygk.com) & Zack Gilbert-Kreiling (@zackgilbert.com) join us to talk about building and launching Eventually (@eventuallyticketing.com), their event ticketing and commerce platform, as a husband-wife team. www.indierails.com/77

Really bummed right now. Just had our first churn. It was inevitable. And it wasn’t even our fault. They just weren’t selling and making enough to justify even our lowest paid tier. Still feel like we failed them.

Rolled out a big revamp of our calendar widget builder earlier today. This included "global styles", so you can keep your brand consistent without copying custom styles to each new widget. Not something customers asked for, but came from us regularly using the product and getting super annoyed.

My wife and I just did an interview earlier today for @eventuallyticketing.com. It was for a podcast I regularly listen to. First time I've ever been interviewed on a podcast. I think we did okay!? It was super fun. Excited to share it when it's out in a couple of weeks.

Holy. I'm supposed to be working right now, but one of our @eventuallyticketing.com customers (bonvivantcakes.com) just did a new class drop, and we are seeing insane activity. We just crossed $100k in total GMV (sales that we helped facilitate for our customers) in our first 3 months.

Today is one of those days that I REALLY wish that we raised funds for @eventuallyticketing.com so I could focus solely on growing it to sustainability. But instead, I'm having to split my time closing new client work to make sure we can pay the bills while we get there.

A few months back, Kelsey and I went through and talked with a bunch of other founders and investors and pretty much came to this same conclusion. Yes, self-funding/bootstrapping is difficult, but if you can make it work, you get to keep control and lifestyle, without adding a ticking clock.

The default answer to “should I raise institutional money” is “no.” Most companies and founders aren't suited to those requirements, goals, and trade-offs. This isn't a value judgement. Few products can reach $500M ARR, and most founders prefer to be DHH than Bezos.

Do I know anybody from the Small Bets Community (or another like it) who has a few Ruby-based startups/indie businesses they run? Would appreciate some reposts to find a few people to talk to.

Whoo! 2 weeks off. Not completely offline, but like 90%, I'd say. Trying to get caught up and back into the swing of things. I love that @eventuallyticketing.com kept running without too many issues. Great to see the new signups.

It’s been a long and wild month. And an even longer and wilder week of launching. I’m exhausted. Taking some time with the family to try to reset a bit so we can come back strong and focused and continue this marathon. Grateful for all the love and support.

Today has been phenomonal. Even with bs throttling and gate keeping from PH, we had an absolutely monster day of outpouring from friends and supporters. I couldn’t have imagined. I am beyond grateful for all the love. This thing might actually make it. @eventuallyticketing.com is now.

There are obviously a ton of amazing tools that have helped us build Eventually, but I want to call out one especially: @briancasel.com Builder Methods. The community, the videos, the workshops, but especially the tools that Brian shares have all been extremely crucial for us.

Welp. @eventuallyticketing.com is launching on producthunt.com today. We’ll see if anyone likes it or finds it interesting.

After getting our first monthly customer last month (via a recommendation from Claude), today we got our first yearly subscriber! Think we need to set up an automated bell ringer. :)

I was very close to scrapping my Microconf trip with the family today. Just felt too much with a baby with a fever and running on 2 hours sleep. Grateful for @bykelseygk.com pushing us to still go. Because we can do hard things.

Chrome: I have never once wanted to have split screens. I just want to move/reorder the tab. Please stop trying to make split screens happen.

I’m not a huge gamer. But the original NES gold cartridge Zelda was the one game I grinded on hard until I beat it as a kid. Played a few others, but over the last two weeks I’ve finally started to play Breathe of the Wild with my wife and 4.5yo. When this series hits, it fucking hits.

Zelda Universe@zeldauniverse.bsky.social

We're coming up on 40 years of The Legend of Zelda series, so we have to ask: What are your Top 3 favorite Zelda games?

I've always struggled with time tracking. I forget to start/stop timers, I'm bouncing between so many projects that it's impossible to properly do without breaking flow. So I created an automatic tracker based on which desktop I'm in using Hammerspoon. It's still earlier but I'm very excited.

I’m a big believer that you vote with your dollars and you do your best to support the people and projects that you want to see more of in the world. I bought the initial version and buying the membership for the update was a no brainer for my business(es). One new sale and it pays for itself.

Update: the first version of the new M4Devs site is up! marketingfordevelopers.com

Out of curiosity… Are people still doing /now pages? If you are, how often do you update yours? And is there a historical record for older versions? Way to track (rss)?

Did you know you can still take advantage of the August Rule even if you already take a home office deduction? You just need to adjust your property’s market rate to exclude the deducted home office (most likely ~10%). Is one better than the other? Nope. Why not both?

And just to be clear... this is my new project. A CPA that I've been working with for years brought this to me because he was tired of his clients not following through. We help people do all the tedious compliance work and documentation, and package it up for you to give to your CPA.

In hind sight... I probably shouldn't have started building a new company the same week we introduced a new baby into the world. But I can't help it. I think this needs to exist in the world. Also... kids are expensive.

First time back at my happy place since we were too pregnant to travel (June or so). The 4yo really wanted some hot chocolate after we did some chores around the yard.

This is the first time in forever that I've actually been annoyed by having multiple other projects that I need to work on and really wish I only had the one. Feels like it might be something.

First Google Nest, now Belkin Wemo being decommissioned. Love needing to completely swap out half of my house’s switches and plugs by the end of the year. What brand is the safest to switch to?

Started sharing with a small group of people (<10). Encouraging response, but no actual signups yet. So largely just marketing site/concept feedback to help improve it. If I had to take a guess, biggest hurdle is trust. Trust in the concept (why should I do this?) and trust in us (why you?).

Zack Gilbert@zackgilbert.com

Working on a new project that I’m really excited about. So close to starting to onboard the first couple of people. Going to save a lot of people a lot of money.
