I wrote about why @knightfoundation.org invested in @bsky.app: philanthropy can act when mission & opportunity align. We believe in @jay.bsky.team's vision for a better social web—& in ideas (like @masnick.com's) that grow out of the research ecosystem Knight has long supported. kf.org/kfbluesky

Hello Bluesky, I've been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I'm thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.

It seems like people are identifying a few things about bluesky that feel to be working: -Quote tweet function -Exclusivity of invite codes -Intangible culture of “posting” Honestly it just sort of feels like how twitter *used* to be. Is that just bc of similar aesthetics?

Back of the envelope sounds doable to me. Tough but doable. And I like that I can do crazy stuff as third party service (e.g. spin up and seed pseudonyms on demand, create alternate algorithms for filtered feeds, etc.). Can even do these as paid services. Congratulations, I'll watch closely!

@why.bsky.world reading the AT protocol docs. do you have any estimates on how this would behave at twitter scale? The big-world scaling would just push firehose to servers using negotiated peering agreements? twitter does 16TB a day? (with lots of redundant data and images/video i'm sure)
