Using AI in interviews -- looking for volunteers for mock AI-enabled interviews. If you are proficient in using AI in your daily work (job, hobby projects, school work), and you'd like to try to use them also during interview, ping me. This is community-driven effort!

Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air after our government threatened a private company with retaliation, marking a dark moment for free speech in our nation. More than 400 artists across our nation signed on to say: We refuse to be silenced by those in power.

This comment by Anders Hejlsberg on the choice of languages for TypeScript is worth reading. Spead that type of thinking! (And recognize the massive shift that Microsoft made)

The "fun" thing is my colleagues met cheaters over last half a year if not longer. I didn't, until couple of weeks ago (and I interview a lot ... 150-200 per year) And it is second instance since then ...

What to expect? ... We will adjust as we go, but first proposal is: - 1h interview session (over Teams with shared screen to see how you use your favorite AI in your preferred IDE) - 30-60 mins free chat/on-off mentoring session (either same session, or separate)

We are looking for both experienced devs and also uni students -- you qualify, if you think you can use AI efficiently to boost your productivity in coding/problem solving/designing. Does not matter if you think you are "good enough" for Microsoft or not. Anyone can participate.

Few of us, interested in hiring, want to find out how best to assess candidates who use AI - their ability to use AI tools efficiently to be more productive at their job. AI tools put an end to Leetcode-style questions, so let's find a way how to assess the AI-empowered engineer.

What's in it for you? - You get direct feedback from experienced interviewer - Free chat / one-off mentoring session with successful Microsoft engineer/interviewer about topics of your choice Interested? ... Ping me! (Reposts appreciated)

Started thinking about experimenting with AI during interviews. Idea: allow candidates to use it and yet still be able to find out if they might be good hires. Why? ... AI is here, we use it in daily jobs. Why not during interview? I am curious what we will find ...

Finally had time over the holidays to realize a long-standing dream of mine: a hex editor that knows about the PE file and .NET metadata format. You can click any byte and it will show you which data structure it is in the tree. Every byte is covered. The parser is at github.com/KirillOsenko...

Interview feedback on the spot: I interview quite a lot, let's say 150-200 interviews per year and I love it. One thing I started doing more often this year is to give feedback immediately at the end of the interview (mostly tech screens lately).

What are your experiences, tips, tricks? From either side - candidate or interviewer. Anyone here had interview with me and wants to give me feedback back? I would welcome it! (so far I got a few positive ones, but don't be shy to be constructive, I ain't perfect and might make mistakes ;))

Not always, only when I see the person being receptive and showing signs to learn something from it, or if they ask themselves. I tell them 'no' and why. I tell 'great', improve this / watch out for that and good luck in next round. Overall, perhaps 50% cases get feedback from me on the spot.

I don't try when the person is not self-aware. Not realizing they didn't code anything, don't see it is working, while asking for next steps. I don't want to get into useless arguments. Sometimes, I encourage people to practice, learn and try again in 6 months.

At Update conference on Thursday I heard @rocky.lhotka.net say that there is ongoing exodus from Twitter to BlueSky of .NET team members for last 2 weeks and I felt seen 😇 ... my timing was independent. I had it on my list for a while. I guess owner involvement in government sealed the deal for me.

You are up to date.
