I’m really a Kelly Link story about…well it’s weird… and this line floored me: “A good move: perhaps someone here will save her. Once someone has saved your life, they might as well fall in love with you, too. It’s just good economics.”

Ran an errand and The Happiest Days of Our Lives (into Brick in the Wall II) came on the radio and you know Roger, you don’t have to broadcast all of your issues with women into the world. OTOH he made millions off of The Wall so what do I know?

Just checked stubhub and was surprised to see that 1/2 is a lot more than 12/31. Knowing absolutely nothing other than face for 12/31 is the only higher night, I'm expecting a somewhat normal show on 1/2 but with a banner raising and/or maybe a highlight video.

If we can't get people to critically analyze edited videos at the height of the enthusiasm over YCSE, we're never going to make that leap, are we? Always challenge media, even when - especially when! - the story is something you'd want to believe.

I believe this because there's a strong overlap between thinking women's leagues need this setting and thinking that an average group at a pick up game at the Y could win the WNBA.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

10/26/91 was the first time Phish played in New Mexico. This would put Phish at 31 states (along with DC and Quebec) which feels a tad early to make it to the Land of Enchantment. The show was at Club West in Santa Fe which, while beloved by some locals,

doesn't have an interesting of a history as Chuy's Choo Choo from the other day. But a lot of amazing musicians have performed there and one person on Reddit claimed, "Many many millennials were conceived on the Club West dance floor."

Looking at Phish's setlist, if I ask myself, "What was the most likely song for a couple to get it on to," I think my answer is "None of the above," but at least Dinner and a Movie implies that there is a date going on so let's run with that!

It was an emotional day on 10/25/24 as the news of Phil Lesh's passing started to spread. I was in Albany getting a pre-show dinner when I got the call from Mel about it. Thankfully a Phish show was the perfect place to be that evening,

Despite the lank of the cheer, the band took the role of Phil Lesh and opened with the call many were hoping for: Box of Rain. It was cathartic for sure. It's now been two years for him to be gone, but the memory is still there.

surrounded by other people who were feeling the same thing that I was. The Knickerbocker Arena was the perfect setting. Outside of the 12/1/03 show, the only music I had ever seen inside that building were 6 Grateful Dead shows and one JGB.

Seriously there’s no fig leaf here. No “get the murderers” or anything like that. Just a pure call to evict a population to… eh who cares really?

The WSJ had an article titled “Don’t Assume Marine Le Pen Can Save France” but it turned out the issue is that she might not be able to do an ethnic cleaning. Things are getting really bad when this can be published in the mainstream press.

I'm finally getting to the editing of Long Journey Home, and like I expected, it's mostly me cutting cutting cutting. I've just finished the Introduction and first two chapters and I'm already down 1000 words. I did though just have to drop everything and listen to the 9/3/88 Morning Dew.

Before 10/24/91, Trey announced, "Ladies and gentlemen on bass tonight: Mr. Lou Reed." There's a pause that is most definitely not filled with uproarious laughter from the audience followed with, "I guess nobody got that one." Well I don't get that one.

One day I'll get to interview Trey and I'll ask him the questions that the public really cares about! Speaking of things that the audience didn't get, this show also featured the first version of Tube in nearly a year.

Was Mike dressed like a Velvet Underground album cover? I don't hear a Walk on the Wild Side tease or anything. Is it perhaps related to "Fern" who recited poetry to everyone during the setbreak and most likely before the show based on Trey saying that "we" were all fueled by that.

Acceptance of the other. Gay rights, people pushing for better representation, more understanding of the neurospicy. Sure there's a backlash but it's still better than where we were in the 70s.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

10/23/91 was Phish's first time playing Arizona, at a venue called Chuy's in Tempe. Chuy's was first born as Chuy's Choo Choo, a moniker befitting a venue that was moved twice before it closed in 1992, even if the Choo Choo vanished before the relocations.

the one track from it I could find - I Wanna Git Wit U from side 1 - shows that this doesn't quite work. If you pay attention to the album and song title, you probably won't be surprised to learn this, but Buddy Reed and the Rocket 88's leaned towards the blues side of things.

referenced both the jazz roots and features a choo choo rolling. Fishman especially has an eclectic taste in music so I wondered for a second if there were an album recorded in Chuy's Choo Choo days that would make this possible.

And it turns out that there is. Buddy Reed and the Rocket 88's released Short Dress Woman that has side 2 recorded there. I can picture Jon both having this and reading the liner notes to notice the venue name... but...

In addition to changing buildings, it also transferred from a jazz and blues club to an alt-rock one, hence Phish playing there. While it's unlikely that Phish knew its history, there's a coincidence that makes me wonder. The encore of Take the A Train
