An economic union? With a stagnating EU that is pursuing neoliberalism and austerity as answers to a growing debt burden? Varoufakis writes & podcasts about this. We can surely have a social reunion and more freedom to trade in farm produce without returning to strict rules, the EU parliament, etc.

Quite a hilarious comment coming from the most neoliberal country in Europe, the land of austerity, the country that fought tooth and nail against the EU's Social Chapter. Have you a plan yet to realise your pipedream, ten years after voting to leave?

Clearly you're unfamiliar with current UK politics. We now have a prime minister leading a government that condemns & repudiates the decades of neoliberalism & austerity of previous Tory and New Labour governments - which failed to condemn & reverse Thatcherism. Beware of fascism in EU countries.

No. You can’t. That’s cherrypicking and exceptionalism. We had this from the UK before. You left. There is no rejoin under the former terms. There is “make application to join”, and agree to the normal protocols for a 3rd country wishing to join the Union. All of it. Or none of it.

Rejoin under former terms? Clearly there can be benefits for all Europeans if agreements can be made that modify the hard Brexit that was brought about by a stupid Tory regime after a dubious 48/52 vote engineered by Cummings and Farage. It's not cherrypicking if the EU also wants closer links.

No, we can’t, and you embarrass us by even making such a suggestion. Have you visited anywhere in the EU over the past ten years? They don’t need us, most of them are more prosperous than we are. We would be the demandeur in any negotiation with the EU, sadly, thanks to Brexit.

As a matter of fact we can have a better & closer relationship with our friends & neighbours across the Channel. It's what they also want. They appreciate the UK's role in combating fascism, for example. I travel often in Europe. Burnham wants "an honest discussion" about "closer links". So do I.

Absolutely true but I don't see a political leader who has the courage to make it happen. It's a sad thing to say but labour is as mired in dirt as the Tories and Reform. Its stance on Palestine action and support for Israel's genocide is more sickening than Farage lining his pockets.

The case for the UK rejoining the EU must fully embrace freedom of movement as a tremendous positive, giving zero quarter to the rants of Brexity bigots whose xenophobic isolationism has done such colossal economic, social and cultural damage

I'd worry more about the rotten edifice of the British "union" if I were you. But self-awareness is in short supply on the other side of the Channel. Beyond parody. Nine countries are queuing to join the EU while the only way to keep the UK together is denying democracy to Scotland.

And by dragging Northern Ireland out of the EU against our voted wishes. And causing the mother of all headaches to the UK gov.

Would EU want Britain back? It's a very conservative country in a time of fascism. Being outside EU rules, it's easier for EU companies to do what they want in the UK. In a time of economic chaos, does the EU want a possible debtor state? And visa versa - does the UK bail out the EU if needs be

Picking my way through the pre-referendum garble, I voted to remain for 2 reasons: defence and to keep the Americans out. Oh!

The ruling politicians cannot go on tv and say how bad Brexit has been to the economy, fabric and well being of the country and then say sometime in the future we will have a discussion on returning. They surely must deal with it now or they are failing (again) in their duty.
