Imagine being from Britain and accusing the EU of neoliberalism and austerity without even a hint of self-awareness lol.
An economic union? With a stagnating EU that is pursuing neoliberalism and austerity as answers to a growing debt burden? Varoufakis writes & podcasts about this. We can surely have a social reunion and more freedom to trade in farm produce without returning to strict rules, the EU parliament, etc.

The short version is, be careful of discussing what you don't want because that just looks like exceptionalist UK all over again. Which is true, and all the more reason why the absence of pro-EU voices making strong pro-EU arguments is even more striking.
Today's diversion: how the EU might handle UK non-participation in the Eurozone tl;dr understandings bump into obligations 1/

The mentality of certain "rejoiners". Trustworthy old Britain, the most trustworthy member state the EU ever had apparently, served on a bed of supremacism. Not fit to be an EU member.
Did I talk about changing the rules? Are you so naive to think that every MS upholds the rules? One of the things that some of the "bigger" MSs valued with UK membership is that we did enforce the rules, while other MSs would happily accept new rules with no intention of enforcing them.

Other than the fact that we have already rejected our previous exceptional terms of membership as not good enough for us, rejected the Eurozone, rejected Schengen and were absolutely against ever closer union, I can’t see any reason why we aren’t the perfect candidate to join
😂It's always all about "them" isn't it. They want "good" terms from the EU so THEY can progress. "Good" terms in their eyes means not participating in the EU's finest achievements like Schengen. More spesjul treatment for a country that only spat us in the face after decades of appeasement.
2. Explain to EU partners that we can only progress at the speed that we get good terms. 3. Rejoin Single Market - to get most economic benefits right away. 4. Rejoin EU when a) partners are happy to give us a similar deal to before (which is partly dependent on how stable we look),

But he did disavow them - and again, you face the same question as "Tommy" faced: what is the point of asking AES in particular? Do *you* disavow them? Have you asked everyone you know to disavow them? Do you disavow Nazis? Would you enjoy being repeatedly singled out and asked to disavow them?
Their point is Abdul El-Sayed wouldn't disavow the Muslim Brotherhood throughout his campaign and during the debate. Negative repercussions from his change in stance should be directed to Abdul El-Sayed's advisors.

Spot on, David. Seen from the EU, this approach sounds awfully same old, same old: want to make money and to 'lead'. The EU continues to grow and change, but its foundation is the same. And many of the biggest changes are ones which the UK itself would have blocked--a fact of which Bx is well aware.
The EU is "a system built on what the UK can do for it". Wait till this uneducated "man" hears that the EU's predecessor rejected a UK application to join it several times. My god they are so incredibly thick and arrogant. An "unaccountable" institution he cries from the UK of all places.
No, shame on you. The EU isn't a force for good - it's a system built on what the UK can do for it, not what works for us. Framing anyone who rejects EU overreach as a "Putin puppet" is just a distraction. The real issue is an unaccountable institution that never worked for the majority of the UK.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than some English entitlement and pathetic victimhood to brighten up my day. 😂 How dare the French try to reap the benefits of Brexit by using the fact that Britain chose not to be a member of the EU? How dare they!
It's good, but we should be looking at how the French government are behaving, despite Macron's apparent welcoming of Britain back into close relations, behind the scenes we're seeing the old France trying to do us down at every opportunity and only submitting under German pressure. Not good.

There's no high-speed rail line from Scotland to England and no passenger route to Europe. But there are 3 interconnectors for our power.
On Question Time last night, I talked about the extractive economic model that has left Wales - and many other nations - impoverished *because they were so rich in resources*. You can see the problem simply by looking at the map: the infrastructure looks like a drainage system.

I don't think anything has changed in UK's attitude to EU. In fact this whole thread is not about EU at all, it is about internal UK politics AGAIN. If someone in the EU points out that this is not how the EU works or not the kind of EU member we need, we are "the enemy".

Here we go again. Candidate countries can negotiate [...] opt-outs to Schengen etc." They don't like our finest achievements, and the first thing they think about is opting out. And again the bragging about "our economy". Didn't keep the EEC from making the UK beg for membership three times.
Candidate countries can negotiate varied transition periods, and opt-outs to Schengen etc. You may think that there is nothing to negotiate, but I am sure that different matters of leverage would arise between introducing a $30bn GDP economy, and a $4,200bn economy. How is Albania "more deserving"?
