In my fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, we were required to memorize this, “The True Gentleman.” Back then it was just a thing we did, but now it hits differently, and is needed in today’s men

😔I stole my friend Russel's pledge binder he was forced to have on him 24/7 (which no one could look at, to prove a point) I read this-the only thing in the binder-and felt guilt. I put it back where I snatched it. Still feel guilt, granted, this was Boston 2008. I think anyone should follow this

GenZ are unlikely to be able to comprehend what this says or have the tollerace to read more than 250 words at a time. And if they did they likely wouldn’t agree with it. So the problem is manifold.

I’ve never read this. Thank you for sharing. I’m raising two boys and I’m concerned about the extreme cultural messages they get about what it means to be a good man. I’ll be sharing this with them. 💛

Oh please! There’s a reason everyone knows SAE stands for Same Assholes Everywhere. If they had to memorize this, it sure as hell didn’t influence their behavior in the 90s and aughts. Don’t imagine it does now either. Sorry, Adam. Big respect for you, but not so much for your bruhs.

SAEs at my college in the 80s were just as keen on date raping drunk girls they’d plied with Everclear punch as all the other frats— but we didn’t have the phrase “date rape” to properly categorize their violent behavior toward women. And in my sorority we blamed the women. Proud to say I quit.

Beautifull thought . And I would broaden it to persons, i see universal values, not just for men. ❤️ By the way, I also Imagine that what is still called The white house, is now associated by visitors, to a show called “My big fat gipsy wedding “

My father was a SAE and this describes him to a T. He was a true gentleman. Trump has none of these qualities and my father (84 at the time) spotted this back in 2015. His comment after hearing him speak and boast on TV, “Certainly the American public won’t vote for someone like this. Impossible!”

Well unfortunately your party betrayed thaz in favor of personal gain, greed power and abuse of the American people. Can you not persuade even 3 republicans to change the balance of power in favor of we the suffering people?

Thanks for posting that! We are so lost as a culture on so many levels. Read about the horribly behaved Americans at the Ryder Cup. Liberal forms of civility are just fine for me.

That's exactly what a man is, and a macho guy with the muscles is not. This describes manliness perfectly. This is what is attractive to women or anyone! Maybe you should have shown this to Josh Hawley before he wrote his book about manhood. I doubt any of this is in it.

My father (who passed away two years ago) was the epitome of a gentleman. How I miss his generations wisdom. Thanks for sharing this important wisdom. I hope young men today continue to be inspired by it.
