US Presidents have prioritized military spending because the profits to billionaires, corporations & Wall Street are Grrrrreat! Traffic controllers, not so much. Don't fly anymore. Don't visit the US, it's not safe. Your plane could crash or ICE could kidnap you. They have a quota to fill.

1) I spent 29 years as a Controller and this has always been the story. The FAA due to litigation would accept additional duties for the Controllers such as weather dissemination to pilots and yet provide no relief as to where that time on the radios would come from.

2) Controllers only have so much radio time due to all the needed clearances, but the FAA decided that much of the pre flight briefings the pilots used to get prior to departing could now be given by Controllers on the fly. Items such as equipment outages at destination airports.

3) Weather briefings and many other duties that used to be taken care of prior to the pilots departing. There simply isn't enough time for Controllers to do everything they are required to do and still perform their primary duty of separating aircraft from others and ground movements.

Anyone who flies to/from America right now is asking for trouble. So tragic that those pilots lost their lives from what boils down to a lack of funding. Apparently it's MONEY first, then safety. You couldn't pay me enough to travel to the USA right now.

These towers used to be full of air traffic controllers. Their union negotiated them a decent wage with benefits and a safe working environment. And even then, it was a stressful job. Reagan put an end to that. Cost cutting for… The Formula for Profit.

It would have been my biggest fear too if I'd ever had that job. I feel for everyone involved but hurt most of all for him. I pray that the haters on the internet never learn his name, and that he's surrounded by folks who love him and can help him get through this time.

The human I blame is Elon Musk, who three days after Trump's inauguration offered buyouts to ALL air traffic controllers. The next night a commercial jet and a US military helicopter collided as both approached Reagan Airport. The ATC responsible for the flights and others at that moment was alone.

This is a horrible accident. I'm terribly saddened for the pilots who lost their lives, the injured in hospital, but also for the controller who was on his own trying to manage a two person job. He will be haunted by this and the what if's forever. The gov't will not accept the blame.

Should not be blamed on the Air traffic controller. On the tape you can clearly hear them telling the fire engine to stop several times. The engine neither stopped or responded back to the air traffic controller's demands. I would consider it a possible act of domestic terrorism against air Canada.

I was an Air Traffic Controller. My heart is breaking for all involved. My heart really hurts for that Controller. I always had a fear some like he had would happen. I know he is suffering, hurting, and feeling guilty and out of his mind with the guilt. Being a Controller is so stressful.
