I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

6. At the end of the day the Trumps and their spouses are bullies and grifters. The people around them are weak-willed sycophants. Neither succeeds without the other and both are equally responsible for this moment. Our country can't afford let either of them off the hook. /fin

Everyone is on Jan Crawford of CBS for her post about Abdul El-Sayed today, but you may have missed her post about Zohran Mamdani ten days ago. This is who she is.

Tom holds back nothing in this indictment of Trump as the weakest, most pathetic of men. A fangirl of Putin and still seething because Zelensky withstood his mob-like tactics. Shakespearean in its tragic consequences.

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

Humiliating and dangerous: Trump has now finally just made America an ally of the Kremlin and is aiding Putin in his war against an American friend and partner. Shameful betrayal of a US friend, and pathetic submission to a US enemy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

But in all seriousness, there’s no way a guy who tweets about sports all the fucking time messed up these two teams and sporting events. This is just a piece of propaganda designed to make the stupid MAGA think that Jack Smith did something wrong. Fuck Eric Schmitt and his Kremlin talking points.

Greg Olear@gregolear.bsky.social

The only way this could have been better is if Smith said "Fuck Trae Young."

This. It has always been this. A sitting American president did this. And because he did this, he should have been convicted and put behind bars. And the fact that we never held him accountable for these crimes will forever stain this country. And we may never recover from it.👇

Telling rich people they're the greatest geniuses in world history is actually quite a good strategy, especially is said rich people are actually not that smart.

There's this really odd pattern with Bari Weiss, JD Vance, Richard Hanania etc, where they rise to prominence because their main skill is cultivating the friendship of wealthy patrons, but it's impossible to figure out how they do it because they constantly exude a pungent strain of anti-charisma.

“‘As I understand it, he paid him back,’ Trump told reporters in the Oval Office” More burying the lede by sloppy, scared journalists. When Trump says “As I understand it”, it means he’s lying and wants plausible deniability when the truth comes out. www.cnn.com/2026/09/18/p...

(1/X) I more certain of the following than I am that the sun will tomorrow: (a) Trump will leave the US (and GOP) in shambles. (b) Neither Trump nor anyone who facilitated him will pay price. (c) Ppl who accurately predicted how bad Trump2 would be will continue to be portrayed as hysterical...

Let’s assume we had a windfall from tariffs (we don’t), there were trillions in committed investments (there aren’t), and we were not drowning in debt (we are), Trump still would not issue a $5,000 dividend (bribe). He’s a conman. His kink is getting you to fall for his BS over and over again.

Please remember a truism about American politics: Most voters are fucking idiots. They will believe Trump will give them $5k for voting for Republicans because that's exactly what a fucking idiot would believe. I wouldn't be shocked if desperate GOP candidates run with this blatant bribe scam.

It was more than bad enough how many institutions caved to the stupid "Gulf of America" stuff, in the early weeks when Trump somehow had an image of being all-powerful. Any institution that *now* adopts "Lake of America" is being Trumpist on purpose, with all that implies.

Look, are we the laughing stock of the world? Yes. Are we losing a war we should’ve never started? Yes. Is all our food poison now? Yes. Are all the jobs going away? Yes. But the important thing is a blue-haired college student I made up in my head feels bad about memes.

Whether it’s Hillary Clinton sharing risotto recipes on a private server or Donald Trump spending 24 hours a day with a mentally unstable aide who has no security clearance, both candidates presented grave national security risks.
