Larian CEO Swen Vincke says everyone at the Baldur’s Gate 3 studio is “more or less OK” with the way AI is being used on its new game. We’re not so sure about that.

The CEO needs to realise, when he asks his employees, who for a big part had to emigrate to work, because he doesn't allow remote work, a question like that, he is basically waving a gun with "I can fire you" around. Noone will then come up with the idea, "hey, what if i test if he fires that gun?"

Facts: After dos 1 they hired more writers because the writing was bad. They release games without micro transactions or dlc They support their games very well The studio grew very fast for bg3 ( what makes things suddenly very hard HR wise and he acknowledges that) 1/x

They employ world class talents They bought an art boutique They want to have there team the tools they need. They have crunched in the past (when facing bankruptcy) but are monitoring it. Some people use AI tools (eg chatgpt for better English). Placeholders are generated by some engineers

Swen could 100% be the nicest, kindest boss to work under and I still don't think anyone would feel comfortable stomping their feet and saying "no, we are never using AI so long as I am here and that's my last word". That's just not how these things work

All this was a good monthly reminder of why we should never be partisan about the stuff we buy from companies with CEOs. CEOs have one single function: torture the books until they weep money. So, buy the stuff you like (because in most cases there's no option) but be aware of what's in there.

Yes, there are certain jobs where you can't afford to have an opinion. You have to go with the flow and be agreeable. If CEO say yes, you say yes. Of course, they can offer "team discussions" around that topic & seem like they offer a debate & the illusion of choice. But ultimately, we are cooked.

Yeah like, even if they're like "go ahead and voice your concerns anonymously and we'll go over some of them in our studio wide townhalls" (if they even have those) they'll then just happen to ignore all of those specific concerns in favor of the ones that don't make the company sound so shitty.

Hearing about how much unpaid work they make job applicants do, only to then announce they are using AI, begs the question: were they tricking thousands of people into training their AI model for them?
