Spencer Strider's consistent support of LGBTQIA+ groups, veganism, and Bernie is more remarkable once you know his background: · Grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, · Went to a private non-denominational Christian high school, and · Played baseball for the notable woke bastion Clemson Tigers

No, now the Braves love Yaz. SF could have kept him but he was probably too good of a person for that clubhouse. Sorry, always respected the Giants and cheered for them against the Dodgers. At least until I heard the homophobia from current crew speak up.

I'm glad Yaz is loved in ATL! I mean really he was traded because SF was in sell mode, but he's still beloved by the fans here and even the broadcasters and players (who knew him). I'd have more respect for the Braves if they stopped doing the chop.

FWIW I’m from the area and lots of not-all-that-religious people go to private Christian schools. Most of the private schools are Christian schools. Even my friends from India send their kids to Christian school.

Why is that? Is it because of the lingering effects of the response to integration and the rise of pretty much white only evangelical private schools throughout the South?

That's great, trust me as someone who's spent most of their life in New York there's plenty of shitty racists here, just as there is in Los Angeles and plenty of awesome people from places like Texas and Florida

Comparing Spencer Strider's upbringing to his public statements, and then comparing that to those of the San Francisco Giants pitchers, you have no choice but to acknowledge that Strider is Woketron 3,000 and Scalawags like him are the strongest soldiers of the Union

I love the Giants, yet I am filled with righteous outrage over the intolerance, particularly when clubhouse leaders & a rookie manager (already in over his head) did not appear to push back or otherwise intervene. Thank the universe for Spencer & his humanity.

Why is this so hard for other players? I'm gay. I buy jerseys! I buy tickets! I've loved baseball since I was old enough to walk. Pride nights make me feel like the game I love loves me back.

Grew up in a very conservative town but we didn’t talk about politics in the house. Then Trump came around and realized my family is mostly MAGA even though they’re all good people. My philosophy is just to let people be who they be, try to help those less-fortunate than you, and don’t be an asshole

Knoxville is weird. Incredibly artsy and progressive with a large enough supporting communities to sustain viable dynamic scenes and activities, but also, well, idiots. But it’s easy to believe a kid like this would come out of there
