I can no longer in good faith recommend anyone to study in the US, or stay stateside for work and further education after completing degree programs they had started during the Biden era. US higher ed is unrecognizable even compared to a year ago when ICE was kidnapping students from their homes

Jesus Christ: UC Berkeley international students will no longer be allowed to complete internships or co-ops for course credit unless they form an “integral part of an established curriculum,” following repeated threats from ICE. This is going to send shockwaves across SF and Silicon Valley

This week is the first time I'm endorsing the assertion that America's brain drain, the largest since 1930s Nazi Germany, has crossed the point of no return. I no longer think the next Democratic President, even be it AOC, can get the talent, funding, facilities, and reputation back.

I think they will go nowhere. The Chinese economy, particularly the labor market for college graduates, is cooked; India is speedrunning fascism as we speak; the UK is TERF island; and the EU, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand remain bureaucratic cowards until they prove otherwise

A number of countries in Europe have created programs since spring 2025 to attract scientists & researchers in wake of Trump’s attacks on immigrants, science & education. 🇪🇸 🇫🇷 🇳🇴 🇩🇪 🇳🇱 to name a few. However, none have anywhere near the size/scale/$€ to come close to making up for loss in US.

Okay, that's the entire planet fucked, then. 🤭 On a serious note, I believe many American academics are looking primarily at the EU, and the UK given the language. Probably also Australian, New Zealand and Canada. Maybe Japan, I don't know. Certainly many of these have set out welcome mats for...

I can only speak for the cancer Bubble and Germany. The doctors I talked about it so far already see US scientists come to Germany, also the first Germans are coming back to from the US. And while Germany might be a bureaucratic nightmare, other EU countries are not. We are different COUNTRIES! 😑

Europe is a continent, not a country. We speak different languages, have different educational systems, different governments etc pp. Most of the European countries share the Euro & the border controls are close to zero since a few years. But every EU country is completely independant.

I am one of those people stuck or rather hung. Neither here nor there. It’s difficult to like go anywhere as people literally spend years searching and planning and it’s just too depressing.

I think it's a stretch to imply (which is what the op did) that the UK isn't viable as a place to study for anyone due to a rather vague public bathrooms bill that suggests installing mixed-sex facilities. Most people in the UK genuinely don't care whether you're trans or not.
