insane how genuinely difficult it is to get job interviews at all rn. Like basically impossible.

Not that any have panned out but I’ve had a couple really decent interview cycles and when I get an actual interview unless it’s clearly a bad fit, it tends to go very well. Kind of shocking the dissonance.

I recently went through this and had to get one of those resume tweaking service that makes sure you match keywords, and it made a huge difference. I think the filter is just crazy

yes, in addition to networking, soliciting referrals from friends and acquaintances to relevant jobs, submitting highly optimized and tailored resumes to each job, etc.

Fair, then nothing to add. (maybe giving the job chapter of designing your life a read is sill gonna be helpful on a micro-level for approaching networking, but you might be already doing that) All the best for the search! :)

I think an okay heuristic is that if you think you need a super well-tailored resume, the person hiring you doesn't know you well enough (yet). And that’s your biggest lever

it used to be only at the junior level but it has crept its way up to very senior levels at this point it's utter garbage and it's *not* because people aren't hiring. it's because ~everyone is automatedly applying to every position leading to every job having a pile of 10k "qualified" applicants :\

Only advice i've seen work is: look for people in your 2nd degree network on LinkedIn who work at the company you want to apply to. As your mutual connection with them to introduce you. Talk to this direct connection to see about getting in touch with actual hiring managers. This *sometimes* works.

And when you get to the interview it means shit. My experience with current recruiters is the worst. Like I went through the 5 steps of the interview and I got rejection with "due to the volume of applications we will not provide feedback". Fortunately I am an European, so they can suck it.

i honestly feel like recruiters are discriminating against candidates that aren’t currently employed. I’ve been helping out a friend that got laid off in Feb by forwarding his info to all the recruiters that cold email me. he hasn’t landed a job yet - but he’s been getting interviews out of this 🤷‍♀️

that’s so stressful - im so sorry. i creeped your linkedin and we have similar-ish backgrounds. want me to send platform eng recruiters your way? cause say the word and I’ll do it

I’d love that! Really appreciate it! Feel free to connect with me on there.
