A little thread on Trump's CRYPTO ventures because I don't think ppl are seeing how totally corruptive it is to the system. Let's start w this. When investors dump millions into Trump’s crypto ventures, what are they actually paying for? It has no intrinsic value.

Listening to this today on CBC. Trump made 1.4 billion on crypto. He used to call it a scam but now... Not regulated. Ben Mackenzie, "Everyone is lying to you about money." It's the golden age of fraud now. Level of corruption is unprecedented.

Like the stupid NTFs (or whatever they were) he and Melania sold. Worth nothing. (At least, when I go to the casino, I get to watch the machines do their thing)

If their naive: they hope for a payout. If they're less naive but obviously still dumb enough to dump money on it: they hope for a thin pretense to claim connection to the man they and their social group idolize.

Trump made the bulk of his $2.2B in 2025 from crypto. So what is he selling? For real. The money is going straight to his bank account. We usually try to track money like this, through disclosures, campaign finance reporting, other regs...

The 2.5B is what Trump has reported and doesn’t include anything from his fail-sons or in-laws. He faces no consequence for misreporting these disclosures, nor, apparently for 2025, misreporting to the IRS. Your points are the same whether its 2.5B or 25B, but we may never know true numbers

We should think about Trump's crypto ventures as this kind of dark money direct deposit. The money is going straight into his bank account and it's giving all manner of all kinds of shady and corrupt actors a direct way to plug into his bank account. I

No one has to know. They can do it from your laptop. They can be in Hong Kong. You don't have to be an American. They can be sitting Dubai under federal investigation and be giving money to the president!

Is it really "dark" money though, when he is doing it completely openly in plain daylight? I would say this is as obvious an example of openly inviting people to buy policy, exemption from prosecuting, favours etc. in return for money.

“These people are not pouring money into coffers of the Trump family business because of the brothers’ acumen. They are doing it because they want freedom from legal constraints and impunity that only the president can deliver.” Kathleen Clark, law professor at Washington University

What are the odds that the family will at some point (⚰️) find out that they have no real access to the money they looted? Because on an operational level they have no clue how any of this works and also about the fine print.

It’s truly #GRIFT on an industrial presidential scale.. the only caveat is, that he can’t do it more than the one time last year, as all his crypto has lost essentially ALL it’s value and nobody is really going to buy a nickels worth today. #predictthegrift

Yes, it's just more corruption by Trump, but at the same time, how dumb does someone have to be to even think about buying any crypto, especially with his name on it? "Trust me, bro... these imaginary internet coins are worth what we say... based on numbers we made up." -All Crypto

He's selling access to him and therefore anything he in his power as president can give out. He doesn't care about the country or the people in it or their needs or wants. He only cares about making money. Oh and adulation.

Per Nobel-winning economist Paul Krugman, “There is no valid use-case for crypto” …other than hiding illegal transactions like money laundering & drug trafficking. We already have a regulated system of legal tender for commercial transactions. Best not give oligarchs their wish of untraceable $$.
