Reading a lot of the articles over the years about how so many apartments are off the market because the owners make more on AB&B, I’ve changed what I book. The trend in hotels I *don’t* like is this automated check-in with no manned front desk. Ugh.

I think all these private vacation rentals are a very bad idea, they are hurting our housing market and causing a housing shortage, as with everything, a good idea at first but you have these money hungry people and companies that come in and ruin it.

Anyone joining that horror show at this point in the game loses the right to claim they thought they were doing a good thing and being patriotic when they joined. They're signing up because they like what they're seeing and want to be a part of it.

I am so proud I never got on the Airbnb train. I have stayed with my children when they have book one, but I have always just preferred hotels. Not paying a cleaning fee and then told to clean up the room, strip the beds, wash the sheets, take out the garbage, nope not doing all that.

To be fair, this was an individual move by Gebbia, not by Airbnb. Gebbia co-founded Airbnb and is still on its board, but not CEO. Current CEO Brian Chesky is a close friend of Barack Obama. (Not endorsing, just reporting.)
