RFK Jr: We had lots of guns when we were kids. Kids brought guns to school and were encouraged to do so. And nobody was walking into schools and shooting people. There are many things that could explain this. One is the dependence on psychiatric drugs.

I was in school during the 50s and 60s, and I must have missed the memorandum telling us to bring guns to school. I think my classmates missed that memo too, because I never saw a weapon of any kind in school. Some things are just taboo.

(for those who don’t know, this is a reference to the "mary jo kopechne was unavailable for comment" meme-before-there-were-memes that was popular in conservative circles)

Yeah, a kid walked into my high school with a pistol and swastika armband in 1979. This nutjob has ten years on me but I doubt as a Kennedy who had his uncle and father assassinated he was allowed to have a gun. Bodyguards yeah. Another pathological liar.

When I was a kid in Washington DC public schools, one day someone brought a knife to school to show off. We were freaked out and the school was shut down while the child was questioned. If someone had brought a GUN to school, in Washington DC even, most all of us would’ve had heart attacks.

I remember high school rifle club. What changed since then was the NRA. It turned into a pimp for the gun industry and hawked assault style rifles.

We used to bring guns to school in padded cases for Rifle Club and nobody batted an eye. It just wasn’t a big deal. Nobody could imagine gunning down your fellow students in those days! This is from my 1980 yearbook.

I'm just slightly younger than him and no, we didn't. And no, we weren't. That includes my years in Arizona, where the principal wore a holster. And still, no we didn't.
