today in adventures in the neighbourhood, a squirrel tucked into a tree for a snack break. i can't believe my dog didn't see it, we'd still be there.

A ruffed grouse just bounced against my window - it seems fine, it's off now at the side of the house running around on the forest floor beneath the hawthorns. But I got a great look at its feathers while it took a breather in the clover.

Compound bow First developed in the Ancient World Can't be drawn by just a random guy Tensile strength to make bronze arrows fly

Pavel@spavel.bsky.social

My brain has decided to fixate on the fact that "compound bow" scans exactly like "uptown girl"

My dog caught a snow hare in the new dog yard yesterday and I felt awful (the hare squeal will haunt my nightmares) - it did get away but.. Today, Skippy nabbed a wee mouse in the house and I realize this is her dream life. Fuzzy smaller things she perceives as a threat.

She is a better mouser/ratter than any cat I have ever owned - she nailed a bunch of rats at my last home. I trust her absolutely at keeping my house my clean of mice. Squirrels and bunnies unfortunately meet her vermin rating.

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

I am in my first year here at my new home in PEI Canada and spend much of my days documenting what's already established here while I dream of future garden plans.

the third pic is goldenrod, i forgot to say. i found the seed stalks everywhere when i moved here, with the winter birds foraging the seeds. so, it's become something i preserve as i weed out non-natives.

This is Fenrir. He has not yet been successful in cuddling with the cat. But thinks if he goes slow enough she might not notice. 13/10 (IG: fenrirfanclub)

This is Ozzy. His human made a lovely gallery wall just for him. Appreciates the gesture, but is a little preoccupied with trying to jailbreak this tennis ball. 13/10 (IG: ozzythelabmix)

He’s been getting quite heavily into mindfulness lately. It’s not that I have a problem with it. I just wish he would stop banging on about it all the time

Man spent five hours filling his bucket with fish, until he woke up to find every single one gone. On May 20th, a man was fishing off a dock when he started having one of the best days he’d had in weeks. Dock camera showed his Dog was feeding a Dolphin 🐬

Time to do an update on the lawn to other project. I moved into the property in December, knowing there had been low maintenance on the lawn (which I wanted to minimize anyway) - the thatch was inches deep. It cost as much to remove it as it would have to dethatch it. So to clover I went.

Well, that was satisfying as a Canadian, I just chose to mute the word Trump forever. I get that you're my neighbours, but I can't watch him for another second. Give me cats, otters, red pandas and gardens, and people who give a fuck.

I was gifted a truly gorgeous pottery ikebana container for a recent birthday, so I here's Ikebana 1. This vase is by the artist Peter Janson, owner of "The Dunes Studio and Gallery Cafe", open to the public at Brackley Beach PEI, Canada. There's a calla lily, a bee balm head and a red chard leaf.
