DEMS DO NOT CONTROL WHEN THE HOUSE AND SENATE RETURN THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CONTROL THAT ARE MIKE JOHNSON, AND JOHN THUNE You can scream and holler all you want, but that doesn’t change the facts. Congress comes back on Mon. Dems have absolutely no ability to make it come back today or tomorrow

For everyone grousing about “sternly worded letters”, let’s hear what you think they should do instead, keeping in mind that you’re talking about *minority legislators*. If your idea is for them to exercise power they do not have, I will laugh at you.

Senate Republicans were able to do that because Democrats wanted to pass legislation and the minority in Senate can block legislation. This GOP doesn’t want to pass legislation. So there’s nothing to block.

You think they're not going to have a fresh new slate of ambassadors to vote on or want some votes on the impending shutdown this month or anything? There's nothing that the R's want that can be affected at all?

Examples of this that don't include 2015-2016 period when republicans had majority in the senate, or something that resulted in Harry Reid changing the rules in the 2009-2014 period?

Sorry, I don’t ascribe to this defeatist attitude. It is literally their job to protect this nation. It is not enough to sit back and simply say, “we aren’t in charge…nothing we can do.” There is…they choose not to. We are under attack…fight back with everything you have.

Not a defeatist attitude it’s just reality. You wanna focus on things that can actually matter we need to make sure we win in 2026 we need to be protesting. We need to be calling our representatives but being aware the Democrats are not superheroes in a comic book is not defeatist

McConnell and Gingrich did not just sit on their hands and whine about being the minority. They took all the power they could find and worked to make their narratives the ones to either agree with or fight against.

They had a president who listened to the law. And Schumer is doing a lot of of the same things they did, but you don’t hear about that because people would rather sit on him.

Uhm...sorry to inform you about your incredible misreading of history, but McConnell and Gingrich did what they did when they were Senate Majority Leader and Speaker of the House, respectively. That meant that their parties controlled the branches of Congress....

Actually it isn't defeatism to note what the limits are. It's realism. Saying it's defeatist to not put your hopes and dreams on a dragon swooping in to save the day by setting fire to Mar A Largo would be equally as foolish.

While these Dem bashers get pissed at Dems for Republican actions, Republicans in Congress do not even have the balls to remove their do~boy Speaker, no less Donald. These people are exactly why we are here. They are so easy to rail against Dems, even for Repub. doings, and Republicans know it.

If the Dems return and don't bring a full stop to all Senate business until we get a vote on the resolution requiring Congressional authorization for any further action in Venezuela, it's an abdication of responsibility. And that's the bare minimum at this point. It's "fuck you, make me" time.

I mean, you’re right, but what is stopping Dems from getting strong messages of condemnation & non-acquiescence out NOW? I heard Schumer’s response & it was pitiful. This is mere ‘distraction’ from domestic troubles!? It’s a FOREIGN INVASION. It feels like their only beef is not getting told first.

Graham Platner’s statement was very good & cut through. Kat’s was great but I’d expect no less. It’s interesting to me that the voices I’ve heard & thought were good were candidates, not incumbents. Are you aware of anyone in office that you think had managed to be good on this? I’d like to know.
