We haven't done this before, but this year we saved some of the hackable badges for the shop! There aren't many available, but if you want to have some fun hacking on cool hardware, here you go!

thegithubshop.comGitHub Universe '24 Hackable BadgeBased on the Pimoroni Badger 2040 but uses a newer RP2350a microprocessor Features: Built-in 2.9" E Ink® display (296 x 128 pixels), Battery connector, 5 user-configurable buttons, QT/Stemma expansion...

I didn’t get much time to post about GitHub Universe because I was so focused on making it a great experience for everyone! If you spent time at the badge hacking station, I’d love to hear how you customized your badge!

Curious - do you know who developed the badge?

That seems to be from Pimoroni. Based on their Badger board but also has their branding if you scroll through the gallery.

And in the description - the fine folks at @pimoroni.com custom made these for us. A version build of their Badger 2040 board but with a special bit of RP2350 spice for extra specialness.

They look great! We actually based some of our conference demos on the Badger 2040. We've also talked about sorting out "IoT meme badge" to it - these might be a good target too! blog.golioth.io/move-over-in...

I especially like the large back panel to attach the lanyard. I crafted something myself last time I used the Tufty screen. This is so much nicer!

On its way. Thanks for that!

Can you put one in the box that I will get as a new GitHub ⭐? 😉The package probably hasn't been sent yet.😁 cc @howardlio.bsky.social

Well i am a sucker for eink. I got one 🙂

Too cool, but $36 shipping costs to Germany :-(

Ashley Willis-McNamara

I didn’t realize that the shipping to Europe would be so expensive 😬

Pimoroni is based in the EU so you'll have ok shipping if you order from there! I know that's not the special GitHub model but at least you can hack along.

Thanks! Will have a look

Shipping to Canada 😭😭😭😭😭

Thx for posting this, I don't want one, but you made me realise the eink disp I have, without the "hat" doesn't need a hat, I havent got a dud, I just need a fpc connector and spi.
