Pallone: "I am in favor of a national AI datacenter moratorium until we can find a way to ensure they don't harm our nation's air, water, and power bills"

Also maybe check to see if all the techbros' pie-in-the-sky AI promises and claims aren't just lies before giving them the keys to the kingdom, yeah? I mean, techbros are famous for two things: Making s**t up for money and being colossal weirdos with delusions of grandeur.

Just received highest June bill in 34 years. Rate increases & corporate protectionism is costing everyone way more than it should cost for essential utilities.

AI servers are being built at top speed before Trump is gone and reasonable limits are put on their development. Democrats taking the House and (maybe) the Senate can save us from the negative environmental impact of AI centers.

That moratorium is going to last forever because what looking for a way it doesn’t do that is impossible. By its very nature GenAI is environmentally catastrophic and requires the output of a small country. The only solution is for it to go away completely. No ifs ands or buts.

Just wrote an LTE to the @inquirer.com about this. So far 18 of 24 dem govs are ready to green light data centres as if the only negative is energy costs. What about the INEVITABLE WATER SHORTAGES, AIR & NOISE POLLUTION AND DESTRUCTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT. Can’t fix that by throwing money at it.

It might be good to have that moratorium for another reason, since AI is taking many American jobs and replacing them with the absence of those jobs. Why is America trying to lead the world with a job killing technology that hurts Americans badly just so a few billionaires get higher stock prices?
