‪occurring to me that lately I post a lot of humor writing formatted in exactly this way, and I want to make it clear this post is a rare exception, it’s a real comment I’ve been thinking about for 17 years‬

I don’t feel bad about having enough canned/dried food for 4people for a week in my outdoor “earthquake closet”. I’ve got all the expiration dates on a spreadsheet and rotate it to a food pantry. It’s prudent, where I live. If the Sarajevo-level disruptions come here, it won’t help much.

We have enough dried grains and pulses and tinned tomatoes to feed a lot of people for a long time, and one of those hanging water filters (we live near a river and several canals, including one massive one). Our neighbours are mostly old people and families with little kids. They might need help.

My neighbors, like me, are predominantly elderly. I’d have dried grains and pulses too, except The most likely catastrophe in my region is earthquake (also disruption in the water supply) , hence the food that doesn’t require water. The prudent person prepares for local conditions.
