people Over There are using a “happy with your HRT?” prompt post to share transition timelines. my contribution: started at 20, and I was on 2mg of estrogen a day for some time. attached, we have, roughly: 2 years pre-HRT; 2 years post-; 10 years post-; 18 years post-. quite happy with the results.

[smiling as I add carrots, celery, and onions to my soup] ah, the holy trinity [a cloud crosses my face when I drop a bay leaf into the pot] …and the sin eater

lately i’m really relishing the physical, embodied feeling of creating art—the energy, the eustress, the flow state of it all. SURELY not dissimilar to the tangy slot-machine high of hitting ‘generate’ over and over, almost *hoping* to be disappointed so you have an excuse to “iterate” further?????

starting to get a lovely little Pre-Explanatory Tingle when someone mentions that a website they usually visit every day is currently Down For Maintenance

I always tell people that the reason I like super powers is because I’m a big fan of when anything becomes ‘super’, but deep down I think it’s about the power. I think I just love power

Something to bear in mind as things get harder, from a 2009 Metafilter post from someone who lives through Sarajevo.

‪I’ve accepted that there are going to be more and more tools and time-saves coming from the ludicrous amount of churn these models are able to generate, but I can’t get past it all coming from the enclosure of the history of human creativity by 8 evil rich dudes.‬

gotta admit, I’m seeing a lot of instances of some sort-of llm-derived hack or workaround adding convenience to people’s lives. which is fantastic, that’s just what we need more of. empty convenience.

they were shooting an ad in the studio yesterday so when I did my selfie-taking move of putting my hand behind my head, there was a very bright light shining on me

they say if you want to look at something from just the right angle, you should climb up onto the roof of a thrift store—that’s where you’ll get the best vintage point

there’s a real reckoning to be had as a society with the fact that so many of us will back down if we suspect for even a moment that our opponent is sufficiently prepared to debate, but you’re too ready for that conversation

We DO NOT ACCEPT Haunted Coins! This Means: • NO Currently Haunted Coins • NO Previously Haunted Coins. Sorry—Can’t Risk It • NO Haunted Coins That ‘Your Guy’ Says Are ‘Barely Haunted’. If Your Guy Loves Them So Much, He Can Buy Them • OK To Possessed Coins, That’s Different

“Okay Clarke, initiate that takeover.” “Before I begin, would you like me to switch to hostile mode?” “Yes, good thinking. The other corporation won’t know what hit it.” —Clarke, the AI for CEOs doing hostile takeovers.

whenever I visit the (ugh) Palantir (ugh) Museum of Kitchen Ephemera (incorporating the Royal Library of Cooking, Baking, and Jars) it feels like the “dedicated archivists” there have completely forgotten how to store and retrieve the written material. we’re losing recipes!

people think age gap relationships are weird, but back in the early days of humanity sometimes you would fall in love with the dinosaur you rode to work. and people would be like, “you met her on the way to work?” and you’d say, “yeah, I’m at work a lot”

Your weekend reading: over on Instagram, I offered a crucial, incisive, beautifully-presented analysis of the fame-fueled social dynamics at play in this new series of The Celebrity Traitors. www.instagram.com/p/Deh5EugnAW7/

when I arrived in hell I tried to play it cool by saying I thought the place had a "great vibe, real demoncore hours", but we must’ve gotten some wires crossed because then they stuck me in a room with this scientist and a big metal ball which for some reason seems to terrify him

they say the next one’s gonna be a big one, so you should move inland if you can. but I have an obsessive compulsion around confronting big things, so you can see how I’m in a jam. I’m constantly waiting for the bad news, and nobody else is as excited as I am.

ME [SUSPENDED FROM HOOKS AND CHAINS]: you like this too, yeah? like, hurting me is a good time for you? PINHEAD THE CENOBITE [WINCING]: am I not being enthusiastic? I said all that stuff you suggested ME [FLESH STRIPPED FROM BONES]: I’d just love to feel like this was your idea

this trans stuff has gone too far, the artificial brain I created says it wants to identify as "gender neural"

interesting—this article in the washington ghost claims the reason halloween isn’t scary anymore is because this latest clutch of zombies were all raised with too much screamtime

calm down I’m not “farming a lolcow”, I’m studying the behavior of a member of the popular out group known as “the wretches”

just received by special courier some custom printed personalized business cards which read “it used to be embarrassing to associate with me, but I’m Normal Now!” I’m very happy with the design and quality and delivery, all of that. so I just need to figure out who ordered them

normally I don’t begrudge my customers their inability to do what I do—most subcultures and groups don’t have the skillsets to come up with their own variations on “roses and thorns”. but my current clients are linguists. not one of them could figure out “kikis and boubas”!?

"post to post-card" / "the baron's egg" / all assets used public domain or otherwise free from restriction / the former president's dog is in it a lot

really skeptical of this “LLMs solve 100 ‘unsolvable’ English problems” claim. I’m not saying it’s not impressive, but the answer to “nothing rhymes with orange” looks suspiciously similar to some theories I’d previously shared in my PhD thesis on the word “blancmange”

someone needs to get their head in the game over in westchester, I just ran into one of the x-men–––the ice lad, lovely lad, happy to freeze for a selfie–––and when I asked him "what's the current state of xavier's dream? alive? dead?" he couldn't tell me. he could not tell me.

james bond often privately struggled with feelings of inadequssy

I just wish they would make a show like the green lantern comics I enjoyed reading as a kid, back when they used to let the boring space fights with silly energy constructs give way to the really thrilling stuff: a quiet talk with a bland teen just before the big football game

raunchy underwater digital-first soap “submarine high” has put out urgent casting calls to replace all four series leads after they neglected resurfacing protocols following a recent shoot and got the bends so bad they exploded over guest actor and teen viral dreamboat ‘Rimbly’

I’m growing my fingernails long to donate them to nails for fails. it’s like locks of love but for people who are such failures that they can’t even grow their own nails. the graft nail gets rejected every time, and it’s really painful, but the failures feel like they deserve it

I don’t understand why I was never taught about causality.

no, no, you don’t need sömnnüst premium, if you teach yourself to lucid dream you can skip through the nightmares, you just have to leave a REM echo behind so the tracking software thinks you’re still getting pre-roll while you hack your way through to fantasyland

given their apparent power to shape opinion and mold behavior, I really feel like we should have a universal right to access, audit, and administrate our own ad-tracking algorithm profiles. and I’d love to believe that’s a self-generated take that I wasn’t influenced into having

sorry if I’m being a bit snippy—with the economy how it is, I’ve been trying to trim back the grocery budget, so I’ve not been buying anywhere near as much inverted food as I usually do and my shadow self is being undernourished

“boston globe article”? you must have hit your head pretty hard back there, soldier. but pull yourself together, we’re about to launch another attack! now, when you get in there, she’s going to try to evade accountability by complaining about the bar’s finances,
