Which logo would you put in front of your ATprotocol handle if you had to put it on a poster or website? Mostly I've seen people using the Bluesky logo, but now there's mu.social, @eurosky.social, @blackskyweb.xyz and others, all with their own logo's, it's starting to get confusing.

Just like they're using the Mastodon logo (and name) even though the Fediverse is as diverse as the Atmosphere… (and even though there *is* a Fediverse logo !)

For a ubiquitous atmosphere logo, just go with the obvious choice -- render the @ symbol in a specific sky-blue hue: 1. Host a design challenge to choose the ideal color -- accessible, friendly, good light/dark contrast, etc. 2. Prefix that RGB/Pantone color everywhere There's no step 3

This leaves us with only one behavior to specify. Which social profile should a handle send you to when you're: - in a browser bar, - on a non-social website, or - otherwise not in an explicitly social context? Your preferred social app? Or wherever that person calls home?

Semioticians will notice that there are three visual elements here 1. the @ symbol itself 2. prefixing it to a site 3. that specific sky-blue hue Of these, the third is *least* important. It's just a temporary way to draw attention to the conjunction of the other two until you learn the pattern

Branding savants may object that this doesn't function like a typical (trademarkable) *product* logo, because it's not distinctive enough But for us genericide isn't a bug, it's the point. The whole goal is to make @ prefixes synonymous with a *behavior* -- social coexistence in/on the atmosphere

This has been put forward a couple of times now, but the problems remains that until you reach the point at which people learn to equate @[handle] to the atmosphere, most people will just assume it's your Instagram handle. A logo or symbol acts to make that connection until it's no longer needed.

I don’t think color is something the atmosphere should have an opinion on. Setting aside accessibility concerns, I don’t think that ATProto should force developer and designers to figure out how to fit a specific shade of blue into their design systems.

Put your website url and link to the handle from there both in the protocol way and as a link on the webpage for people to follow (ideally with rel-me on it too, so verification can work)

After all, why use the @bsky.app logo if it's an Eurosky account & I'm using mu.social? I've seen some noise about an official ATprotocol logo (which would make most sense), but not sure if consensus has been reached on the design front yet. Did I miss the memo, or are we yet to figure this out?

There is no entity representing the Atmosphere community… yet.

Our community has gathered around the concept of Atmosphere. There’s work to do in explaining, culture building, and the concrete task of rallying around a brand / logo, especially around login.

I gotta sketch this up at some point. But the 🌤️🌥️⛅️ emojis with the @ symbol instead of the sun is where I’ve been leaning. Platforms can style that like they style their emojis. It should be a symbol, not a brand

Seems logical, but it's also already kinda the logo for Threads. And if you use that and your handle it's @ @[handle], which looks awkward. If you leave the extra ampersand off, people get confused. ATprotocol needs/deserves more distinction.
