I will be attending with a length of silk containing model octopartite essays in flyspeck calligraphy, because we need to get back to sagely governance and kitchen-table issues

While many of you will likely be yelling "GO JOURNALISTS!" or "GO TRUMP!" I'll be calmly enjoining "go Four Cardinal Principles and Eight Virtues"

I clickholed off into some olde Chinese Maths from one of your posts and learned there was a 13th century text titled "Jade Mirror of the Four Unknowns" - another confirmation of 'everything you learned about China from video games is basically right' theory.

What's really fun is when the title makes perfect sense if you know the reference and none at all if you don't: the biggest encyclopedia of the Song dynasty was the 'Primordial Tortoise' 冊府元龜, e.g., and a popular early 17th c chess manual was 'The Secret in the Tangerine' 橘中秘.

("Tortoise" alludes to the tortoise plastrons kept as divination records by pre-imperial rulers; by derivation, "important thing you refer to for serious business" or something along those lines.

"Tangerine" is a metonymic association that started a bit under a thousand years earlier with a Tang-dynasty tale about two dudes playing chess inside a tangerine.) Anyway, yeah - things like Borges's imagined chinoiserie titles are really not all that far off.
