will have a new little daoist print for BEC in 2 weeks :> i was inspired by tibetan thangka paintings. not an aspirational meditation but perhaps something to look at while you imperfectly ponder. i chose wood sorrel compared to lotus flowers because the wood sorrel is a resilient and humble plant

I had no idea anyone was translating this! Way extremely mucho looking forward to checking it out; 新石頭記 is bonkers

The most succinct and accurate possible description of 新石頭記 is that it's Cao Xueqin meets Jules Verne on a lot of cough medication; with all due respect to the reviewer, the original novel's obsession with 情 is utterly irrelevant to the book being reviewed

This 19th c lady’s multitool was found in the pocket(!) of an antique (1872) garment donated to the historic clothing archive at my employer. It features a button hook for fitted gloves and a tiny corkscrew. The corkscrew is too small for wine & was probably intended to open apothecary bottles.

After 14.5 years my book The Dispatch: Rogue Americans in British Asia is coming out November 24th from Audant Publishing House. I will update for pre-sales soon. I'm so excited! If you know Levi Savage. This is also his story.

Many of humanity’s best stories feature a cunning antagonist—one who plagues the hero through deception and disguise. Dr. Jeremy R. Brown shares some examples in Ethiopic literature, including a full translation of the story “The Man Whose Servant Was Satan”: https://bit.ly/47PXvIW

I'm looking to hire a Japanese-English translator to do a very small amount of work related to something for my book. It is probably 30 minutes of work and I will pay. If you have any leads, send them my way please either by responding here or emailing me (damon.beres@gmail.com) ☀️

Trump's continued attacks on @repilhan.bsky.social the Somali American community, & our Muslim neighbors are a heinous attempt to distract from his complete & utter failure as president. Every American should be chilled to the bone: these are the actions of a dictatorship not a democracy.
