I grew up Catholic & went to parochial schools , but am now an atheist . Anyone advocating for putting religion/ Bible in schools needs to listen. Our kids don’t need religion.

When I was in the 9th grade in GA we had someone read Bible verses over the loud Speaker. It really did make them Christian. It just made it pious!

Me too. All the Catholic propaganda taught in my schools did was teach everyone to feel guilty for everything in the world, regardless of whether we had any control over it. Ironically, I was made head girl in my final year so I was expected to do readings at mass. They stopped asking me eventually.

Interesting. Think about the insanity: Everything is ā€œGod’s will,ā€ and everyone is always ā€œforgiven,ā€ but somehow Catholics and Christians never run out of guilt to dump on everyone for everything they do.

šŸ’Æ. I went for 9 years to a private Catholic school. Did my last 3 yrs at public school because my parents couldn't afford private anymore. I was so academically behind in every subject, I almost had to repeat my freshman year. My dad did 12 yesterday of the same private catholic school. 1/2

2/2. He worked at the same factory for 35 yrs making not much more then minimum wage. Also stopped being Catholic in his 40s. He was not well educated and never pursued to learn anything after HS. Thank God I went public school. Got a better education and intro to the job market senior year.

It is also used by criminal men as a defence to avoid accountability for evil activity. They publicly declare their Christianity as if it is some form of shield from prosecution. Several of them are in courts in the UK currently. eg. Russell Brand, Tommy Robinson, Danny Tommo and Young Bob.

Even men leading churches want to have more power, influence and money in this society! God can't fit in schools only religion can And religion is NOT God People with religious beliefs need to accept that your beliefs belong to you and ONLY you and not to your neighbor and not to society

Is there a need for BIBLES in school? That’s ONE religion, one subculture with many sects. But we’re disallowing others & is unwieldy for everybody if we pick one out of the hat. What are the crime statistics by religion? It violates the constitution.

You aren’t going to see the end of religion. Not that you were asking for such. Guilt & promises of heaven for a better behavior works to some degree, NOW & again YET, there sure are a lot of religious people who are despicable, that’s true. Including some of the ā€˜holiest.’ Not needed in school

No, but religion in school is great for mind control of the children. Republicans want to destroy public education because an educated voter is statistically more likely to vote Dem. But if you get them to submit to Big Daddy, you churn out conservatives. God and religion can be mutually exclusive

Was born & raised Catholic and believed up &until I fought in Vietnam there was a god. Then after seeing death&fighting for my life in that war,&one day went to mass in the jungle&the priest was praying for us to kill the enemy in gods name. What?!?That was the beginning of my journey to atheism.

I think they need Jesus, but it should not be mandatory in public schools. We have a Constitutional separation of church and state.

If you wanna know how to shut down a hypocrite Bible thumper ask them a simple question about t/Bible If Adam & Eve only had 2 sons Cain & Abel where did Cain’s wife come from? Then ask them, if God drowned everyone on earth but 8 people on t/Ark doesn’t that mean everyone is from incestuous sex?šŸ˜‚

Religion puts your mind in a box, requiring you to conform to that religion’s beliefs. Destroys your critical thinking ability, as you have no vision outside the walls of the box. She’s spot on, the more people that realize this, the better off we’ll be.

8 years in Catholic grade school. In 8th grade, I got into an argument with a lay teacher about Mary her ā€œvirginā€ birth. I was suspended and eventually had to apologize to teacher and class before being allowed back to school. That was all of the jeebus I could take…agnostic now leaning atheist.

It actually ruins free thought. I had 3 in a private Lutheran school. The only thing they all got was depression and anxiety. And therapists. Parochial schools house Repugnant trash. Keep the bible at home, unless it's a religion class and all religions are represented.

Religion - church, temples and synagogues, parochial schools, etc. Education - schools, colleges, universities. Separation of church and state. Keep it simple, stupid!

She's nothing but what men call hysterical. I'm Catholic, Brian, and glad I was raised as one. Something happened to you along the way, Brian, and allow Satan give you that lie. But who am I to tell you otherwise, as Satan rejoiced. Go back to the church, Brian, the rosary, the Holy Eucharist.

PS I was in the sixth-seventh grade- coming home from school, when the minute I walked in the door, that woman’s face was on the TV, who won the court case. To think, this woman ranting in this video, could take that energy to help with her argument, while Republicans disregard that law.

We don’t need Bibles and prayer in school ONLYbecause in 1963-64, a woman by the name of Madeline Murray O’Hare won SCOTUS to not allow Bible reading in prayer in public schools. Your should be focusing on that and not pushing atheism upon society. Look it up! Your reasoning is ill logic.

Who do you think you are to tell others that God doesn’t exist? That’s your belief.ļæ¼ I refer you to research Madeline Murray O’Hare, who won a Supreme Court in 1963–64 do not allow prayer and Bible reading in schools. That’s the parents’ responsibility, not the school system.

2/2ļæ¼ You’re one of the problems of America who still need to learn to mind your own business, keeping your beliefs to yourself. Your classic evangelical in your simple case you’re pushing your atheism upon others. Some of us do believe there was a God we don’t push that on you.

First things first, first, atheists don’t have a belief that god doesn’t exist. We reject theistic claims that this or that god DOES exist. It’s not the same thing. Second STFU, as long as theists come to our doors, invade school board meetings and legislate their Bronze Age beliefs /1

/2 you don’t get to say shit about us not keeping our lack of belief to ourselves. You’re a f*%#ing hypocrite with that nonsense. Nobody is pushing atheism on you when they criticize your religion. Your shitty ideas are immune to our criticism because you have a strong belief.

I went to 2 years of an elementary Catholic school and by high school was basically atheist as well!šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Meditation in schools has been shown to have positive outcomes. Actually, meditation is good for anyone of any age in any culture or in whatever setting. Not a religion, a practice, (which can lead to direct spiritual experience, as Masters attest to)

My sister, husband, parents, grandparents, and many other friends and relatives fought for choice. Choice is freedom. If you want to read the Bible in study hall after your class work is done, your choice. Have at it.

We had optional religious classes aged 10-12. I sat them out as did most kids. There was of course Sunday School too but maybe 10% of my school class attended. Skip forward several years and the 10% were the troublemakers among us. Coincidence ??

From having my left hand hit eith a ruler from the age if 4, to secondary education in Roman Catholic schools, i cant stress this enough... Fuck religion in schools, its based on segregation nothing more.

ā€œGodā€ has been in the hearts of all those good little white Christian nationalists when there slaughtered their classmates. Well god and the Russian psy op formerly known as the NRA . Maybe let the kids read something less violent like real depictions of ww2

I’m trying to help nice people like you eschew the word ā€˜atheist’ because it sort of presupposes that belief is the norm. The believers may be ā€˜theists’ but you are just a person. You don’t have to define yourself in terms of religion. That’s what I always say. ļæ¼

How many of us have started sentences that way. I certainly have, and I'm convinced that the best way to make an atheist is to teach one critical thinking and then have them read their religious doctrine. To be stripped of cognitive dissonance is to be stripped of religion.

That might have left one thing unclear ... I don't want Bibles in public classrooms because they won't be taught with critical thinking. They'll be used for indoctrination.

She is correct but especially in the insistence that putting religion in schools is not actually doing the things kids need to succeed in school. Read to your children. Fund the schools. Pay attention to their performance. Etc

Religion is a personal choice. Unless every religion is welcome in the school setting, none should be. I personally don’t think it belongs in pubic schools, as she just said, it doesn’t solve any of the real issues we’re dealing with.

Tbh, there’s no place in society, and education in particular, for religious schools as a substitute for regular school, regardless of whether they are private or not. I’d ban them altogether.

šŸ’Æ: the German philosopher, Ludwig Feuerbach, wrote in his book The Essence of Christianity (1841) that it wasn’t ā€œGodā€ who created man, but man who created ā€œGodā€.

Yes! Yes! Yes!! From another recovering Catholic, now atheist! I’m wondering what happened to all those ā€œpagan babyā€ donations I made with my babysitting money!

Religion just makes God the person of accountability. The only problem with that is I CANNOT HOLD GOD ACCOUNTABLE! Same reason I hate it on the dollar bill "In God we Trust" I DO NOT TRUST A GOD I DON'T BELIEVE IN! I want to be able to trust in systems I can hold accountable like THE GOVERNMENT!

Same. Nuns violently beat the shit out of me. I was just a little kid of 6 & 7 yrs old. Now, I’m a Satanist. Good job, religious pieces of shit. Told my mother- she didn’t do shit except tell me of a time when nun punched her in her face & gave her a bloody nose. Nuns are sexually frustrated cunts

Oh, the Legend of Sister Three Fingers! If its the right 3, she can still bowl. There is a lot of anger pent up in a high number of nuns. Jesus didn’t take his turn doing the dishes & just piled ā€˜em in the sink again, I’ll bet. It ain’t easy being one of the Brides of Christ. šŸ˜‰

The problem is not putting God in Schools. The problem is putting religious zealots in charge of indoctrinating our kids, instead of teaching them science, history, math, computer science, the arts. And hard science: biology, physics, chemistry.

Made him love mom Saw what that did to him Made him love dad Saw what that did to him Made him love god Saw what that did to him Made him love death Saw what that did to him... Todd Rundgren

In the UK we learn about all religions and philosophies in primary school so that we can accept and respect differences in belief and explore our own personal ideas. We also respect and are able to discuss atheism , paganism etc .

They don't want to improve education. They want to improve indoctrination and make them very malleable, controllable, and easily manipulated through fear and fiction.

If, why would a almighty being not be able to implement the ā€œknowledgeā€ of its superiority in the first place? It is a harassment - at least - to try to make believe innocent children of any deity.

Citizens United decision came down in 2010, corporations and the wealthy have chokehold on our politics. Here’s the deal. There’s a bipartisan solution. It’s actually a tiny tweak to state law. And Hawaii just passed it. Montana has put it on the ballot this November.

Religious charlatans already know they are selling fear. They use the fear of God to get rich and control the masses. They want God in schools to start that control at an early age to brainwash children in order to keep the money and control flowing for decades forward.

Christian nationalists are intolerant of any belief other than their own, even variants of Christianity, let alone Buddhism, Jewish, Islam, Hindi, Confuscian, Taoist, atheist, agnostic, Gnostic, wiccan, Native American, voodoo, Santoria, or 1000s of others. Religion is personal, keep it that way.

Religion was developed and used as a way to control the masses! Period! How an individual utilizes it in their own life, is your own choice, but it should never be employed as a tool for society, it is the number one reason we have wars! Enough!

100% agree! No religion is needed! Intelligent, thinking, people are what we need, religion is what ruins our world, the fighting, we need peace, caring, and compassion with communication.

Religion does little but complicate reasoned discussion of morality, ethics, science, so many issues, by injecting an element of unreason, argument from authority, hubris, egotism, and egoism. No one is the mouthpiece of a god, no one and no thing is ethical arbiter of the world. Just stop.

Religion in school teaches children how their parents are hypocrites at an early age. I was never in a religious home, my wife was. My favorite story was when their minister ran off with the church secretary. The next Sunday they started going to a different church. Problem solved.
