FYI bay area dog owners, do not use Happy Hound. We were wanting to try their 1 month board & train, but then heard they used punitive measures so canceled within 24 hrs. They said the deposit was non-refundable - it is in their contract but they don't make it obvious. So they stole $2500 from us.

They said we can use it as credit for other services but since we heard they use oldschool methods we will not be doing that. (this tracks as the owner was talking about "alpha" positions, which is an antiquated idea in dog training.) So we are screwed. Really sucks but at least we can warn others.

Dude if I were you, I'd get in touch with your local news and see if there's a "Channel 2: On Your Side" kinda thing. "Punitive training" seems like something this place might not want rephrased into less-kind words by a local reporter looking to get a daytime Emmy on the shelf, naw mean?

Yep, so we are simply out a big chunk of cash. My partner feels both foolish and like she got bamboozled (it was her money, I wouldn't have been able to afford it). It's wild that they won't give any money back.

That’s insane. I did a quick google search and all their advertising claims positive reinforcement. I think you’d have a solid case of False advertising if you could prove they use punitive punishment (that part might not be so easy).

Your partner might try getting with their bank to issue a chargeback on their credit card, especially if they don't make it apparent that the deposit is non-refundable... I'm really sorry to hear this. :(
