your useless Famicom trivia for today is that there is a difference in the fire sound in Super Mario Bros. between a square button console and a round button console

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is because the earliest 2A03 chips didn't have a noise channel "mode" flag properly implemented yet (bit 7 of $400E for anyone interested).

There's only one noise channel :P But yes, the earliest revision had one of its noise modes not working and they had to recall the unsold consoles when they found out (the broken chips were reused in arcade boards for games that didn't use that mode).

It’s caused by this: bsky.app/profile/plgd... The lowest-frequency noise sounded different in the first NES/Famicom version.

Aparently I just made a rather important discovery about the old (letter-less) RP2A03. Lidnariq (NESDEV guru just confirmed from die shots) essentially the lowest noise period value is different: 2046 instead of the 4068 in later revisions. This might change how certain sound effects sound

The jump sound of the SMB3 is often garbled? I effortlessly tried to replace the resistors of my square button famicom just to realise that it's probalbly the cpu fault. And the Everdrive N8 dont work with that console.
