This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it. It was effectively banned as it never aired again. I wonder why. MEDIA-OPOLY

They were ahead of their time! Who’d have thought it?! And, here we are.

I think Ben Bagdikian wrote Media Monopoly in 1983 and he was trying to sound the alarm even then. He is currently spinning in his grave screaming, “I TOLD YOU SO!”

TBH, well informed people were well aware of these connections & dynamics. I remember seeing this animated segment the first time it aired, and while I was delighted by the parody and reinforcement of the message, but if you weren’t aware of this by the late 90s, you were willfully ignorant.

And was it Broadcast News or something like that, a tv show Jeff Daniels was in? Might have been Aaron Sorkin. I remember that as being very well done.

Max Headroom was pretty great, too, but I may be the only one who watched it.

You might have been 😆. I watched the debut, but it didn't grab me.

Could not get family or friends to watch, but I loved it.
