So hear me out - the NYT has had this article in the works since April, at least, and Janet Mills suspended her campaign on April 30, right before they were about to start a month of debates/townhalls. What if she did so expecting Platner to drop out after the article came out? But the NYT /1

dragged the whole thing out until the bitter end, and then left out some of the other allegations that would have backed up Fyfield? I smell a rat - many rats. /2

Has a news organization ever suppressed corroborating details using "TMI" as an excuse? If she takes her story (and all those receipts) to another paper it will expose Oyster Boy AND the New York Times.

In a few ways the NYT story felt rushed. For instance: dropping it on a Thursday instead of maximizing its exposure with a Friday night news dump. Also suss was Ryan Grim and Keith Edwards hyping the shit out of the story 24 hours before its release with claims it was about sexual assault.

Yeah, that is weird. It could have just been a space issue, or the editors didn’t believe the friends? Who knows? But plenty of news outlets will be happy to talk to her now.

The existence of vice and corruption elsewhere does not preclude the existence of problems here Especially given that the election is for the Democratic Primary in Maine on June 9th & Susan Collins is not on the ballot.

The NYT is owned by a petty shithead for sure, but this can just as easily be the NYT only publishing what they can verify is ironclad.

I do have to admit it’s hilarious watching certain democrats out themselves as preferring to align with unsupported claims from a right wing former Heritage Foundation employee to defeat the democrats likely Senate candidate. Really selling the “resistance” label here.

I think it’s funnier that some Democrats that insisted it was just a bad tattoo as a result of childish mistake are now defending partner abuse to elect a candidate. I guess they would vote for a pedophile if they had a D by their name.

Just a note: there is no point in *not* gray-rocking narcissists. Letting them know that they're at fault makes no difference to how they perceive the situation. That's what makes them narcissists. You will be the bad guy whether you're nice or not. Fawning allows the least painful escape.

From the AP: "Fifield, a conservative activist, told the Times she dated Platner for about two years, starting in 2013 when he was a student at George Washington University following his military service." SHE IS A CONSERVATIVE ACTIVIST. Now, shouldn't that alone raise flags about his politics?

I am saying that she is part of the GOP ratfucking machine. Is she lying? I am not certain, but I do know that GOP ratfuckers lie like other people breathe, so I think it is a safe assumption. No one "deserves" domestic violence. That's absurd. But she is probably lying, yes.

Yeah, that is the thing about "She's a horrible Republican TERF." Yes she is. And Platner dated her. And abused her, which is not okay *even if she's a horrible Republican TERF.*

I'd also like to point out: allegedly "progressive" people do not date right wing, anti-trans, heritage foundation employees. Platner is a GOP nut whose only ideological point of view is hatred of Democrats.

I have a suspicion it's worse than that. This latest reveal suggests that everything about this article has been prepared in a way to not just harm Platner, but to sow more conflict and chaos among Dems, and therefore reduce the chance that Dems can win. Let's assume everything she said is true.

Republicans have known this info since last August. Why not present this info right away? Platner goes away, and then Mills immediately becomes the candidate that Dems rally around - something Collins wanted to avoid. So let the campaign play out. Mills and Platner attack each other.

Perhaps unexpectedly, Mills drops out. From Collins perspective, this is not a good thing, because it gives Dems time to rally around Platner. Enter the NYT. How to present this information in a way that damages Platner, but isn't fatal. His supporters dig in. His critics get angrier at him.

Sure. But the question is what we do based on where we are right now, not where we wish we were. How does the Democratic party in Maine (and nationwide) move forward without causing a civil way that is apparently being engineered from the outside? Blaming the other side just plays into that.
